We are thrilled to announce that The Sartain Lanier Family Foundation has awarded Math Corps and Reading Corps a generous new grant for their programs in Georgia! The award has been made to bolster the opportunities for our tutors in the state to become licensed educators after completing their service. “We are so thankful for the grant and for the opportunity to contribute to the educator pipeline here in Georgia,” says Dr. Shawonna Coleman, Executive Director of Georgia Programs. “The Sartain Lanier Family Foundation’s generosity will do so much more than help more members take the next step into a career in education. It will also help to deepen our student impact while paving the way for partnerships with Higher Education Institutions and providing additional teacher candidates for partnering school districts.” The Sartain Lanier Family Foundation has been a pillar of the philanthropic community in Georgia for more than seventy years. Today, their central priority is finding ways to strengthen and improve K-12 education in the greater Atlanta area. We thank them for their incredible support! In a 2020 study, Ecotone Partners found substantial returns on investments for Math Corps! Students were the biggest beneficiaries of tutoring, driven by increased graduation rates and earnings. The second largest beneficiaries were schools, who saw reduced expenditures from fewer at-risk students in math. We are proud of our research and training teams and our tutors for providing such high-quality tutoring!

Marlena hoped to work with students when she applied to AmeriCorps, but initially felt some hesitation when she learned the only program with openings was Math Corps. "Math and I don’t get along," she remembers saying at first. But you don't have to be a math whiz to be a great tutor. Now at the end of her first school year as a Math Tutor, she's helping students every day and happier than ever! "It’s been a long time since I’ve been in a position I genuinely enjoy this much,” she says. Read Marlena's story at the link below! https://lnkd.in/gQaK-zbb
