Power of Culture
About us
The Mass Cultural Council is a state agency that promotes excellence, inclusion, education, and diversity in the arts, humanities, and sciences to foster a rich cultural life for all Massachusetts residents and contributes to the vitality of our communities and economy. The Council pursues this mission through a wide range of grants, initiatives, and advocacy for artists, communities, organizations, and schools. We believe in the power of culture. Working through the arts, humanities, and sciences, culture is a dynamic force for enriching communities, growing the economy, increasing accessibility, and fostering individual creativity. Culture is intrinsically valuable and unique in its ability to lift the human spirit. We recognize the essential role that a rich cultural life plays in communities and the lives of individuals. To invest in our cultural life is to invest in our shared future. We partner with artists, communities, organizations, and schools to unleash the power of culture across the Commonwealth. We envision a Commonwealth where: • Culture elevates the quality of life and well-being of all communities • Culture drives growth and opportunity through the creative economy • Culture is inclusive, equitable, and embraces our diversity • Culture empowers a new generation through creative youth development and education

Today, Art Pharmacy and Mass Cultural Council proudly introduce the launch of the nation’s 1st statewide arts prescription solution in Massachusetts. With this launch, the arts become a recognized healthcare solution. “We know that the arts have healing powers – both for physical and mental health. Massachusetts is proud to yet again be pioneering a transformative medical innovation with the nation's first statewide arts prescription solution,” Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey said. “We congratulate the Mass Cultural Council for this incredible achievement and thank Mass General Brigham and Art Pharmacy for their partnership." Art Pharmacy has launched in Massachusetts with the first statewide arts prescription program in the US. Further, as a company focused on improving the health and well-being of our members, we are pleased to share that Mass General Brigham has joined this effort specifically to support stress management and its impact on hypertension. Mass General Brigham President and CEO, Anne Klibanski, MD, explained, “We will focus this care at the primary care sites where patients are at most risk, given the long-standing disparities in blood pressure control for underserved communities. This initiative will work in parallel with our clinical equity efforts and our commitment to a personalized, quality experience for every patient at Mass General Brigham.” “We know that the arts have healing powers – both for physical and mental health," noted Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey. "Massachusetts is proud to yet again be pioneering a transformative medical innovation with the nation's first statewide arts prescription solution.” Art has long been recognized for its impact on physical and mental health. With the launch of Art Pharmacy’s program in Massachusetts, the arts become a recognized healthcare solution. Art Pharmacy is grateful to have partnered with Mass Cultural Council to lay the groundwork for this statewide rollout over the past few years. The House is taking up their Economic Development Bond Bill this Thursday and we need you to take action to support the Creative Space Preservation Act and Downtown Vitality Act. Amendment #104 would include the Creative Space Preservation Act, while Amendment #321 would include the Downtown Vitality Act. Both are 2023-2024 Creative Sector Legislative Agenda policy priorities and this could be our best chance at passing these bills this year. It's critical that we take action on these two amendments today and tomorrow. Visit the MASSCreative Action Network's take action page for ways to urge your state representative to co-sponsor Amendments #104 and #321. #CreativeMA https://lnkd.in/eqR-PnMV
