MAM Houston - Memorial Assistance Ministries

In high school, Diana realized she wanted to pursue nursing and decided to explore her options through real-world experience. Through the Greater Houston Opportunity Youth Collaborative (GHOYC), Diana enrolled in a certified nursing assistant (CNA) course with Memorial Assistance Ministries (MAM), which helped her boost her interview skills, connect with employers, and quickly land a job as a patient care associate. 🩺 Now that Diana has experience working in nearly every hospital unit, she plans to complete her nursing degree and specialize in eldercare. “I’m the first person in my family to work in the medical field,” she says. But that didn’t last long. With Diana’s encouragement, her sister was also certified through MAM. The Michael & Susan Dell Foundation are part of what made Diana’s story possible. They recently featured the story on their website highlighting the GHOYC. This initiative by the Alliance of Community Assistance Ministries, Inc. (ACAM) partners with healthcare employers to identify urgent staffing needs and connects young people not currently working or in school with the training to pursue high-demand healthcare roles. Although there is still much work to be done to help our neighbors fully recover from the May 16 Derecho storm, we couldn’t wait any longer to express our gratitude to those who stepped up for our community!🌟 Please join us in thanking: ✨ H-E-B for providing two semi-truck trailers full of water and ice for distribution at MAM’s Blalock Campus. 🚔 The Houston Police Department for managing traffic during aid distribution efforts and the cooling center, and for delivering water and flowers. 💧 Harris County Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey for donating pallets of water and MREs. ⛪️ Our congregation partners, including Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, Christ the King Presbyterian, Spring Branch Presbyterian, First Congregational, St. Thomas Presbyterian, and Christ the King Lutheran for providing water, snacks, and volunteers. 💪 MAM Resale & Operations Staff and MAM’s Volunteer Squad, including ESL instructors, for stepping in to clean up our center, distribute ice and water, and help our neighbors feel welcome.
