During times of disaster, such as the historic flooding across the Northern Midwest, essential resources often become scarce. In communities across Iowa, where our Disaster Response Team deployed, some individuals have had to travel an hour or more just to do a load of laundry or take a shower. The supplies and relief services we offer help restore a sense of normalcy amid the devastation. We are incredibly grateful to our partners, including Procter & Gamble, Tide, and Walmart, for helping us bring these essentials to those in need. Piles filled with damaged couches, refrigerators, stuffed animals, family heirlooms, and more are forming all around neighborhoods impacted by the recent flooding. “I feel blessed by how many people are willing to help us out," remarked a recipient as our team handed them relief supplies. Items such as gloves, masks, and eye protection are essential as people begin the difficult process of removing furniture and mold from their homes. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by Hurricane Beryl. This dangerous storm reached category 4 strength over the weekend and is now making landfall in Caribbean Islands today as the strongest hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic Basin this early in the year. Once the storm passes through the islands, we will work with our partners to assess the needs of the disaster region and how we can best provide support. Our Disaster Response Team will begin providing flood relief services tomorrow, June 29. Free laundry and shower services, in collaboration with the Tide Loads of Hope program, Procter & Gamble and Walmart will be provided from 9 AM - 5 PM CDT, or until capacity is reached, at Walmart Supercenter (500 11th St SW, Spencer, IA 51301). The team will also distribute essential supplies throughout impacted areas, including Cintas first aid and safety kits, personal care items, diapers, paper products, insect repellant, and additional items.
