We envision a world where no child is denied the chance to learn.
About us
Our vision is of a world where no child is ever denied the chance to learn. In Sub-Saharan Africa, 9 in 10 children do not learn to read by age 10. Children who are out of primary school are uniquely challenged to develop vital foundational skills and keep up with educated peers over time. Our mission is to ensure all children have equal access to joyful, foundational learning, especially those shut out of education by crisis, poverty, or discrimination. To date, Luminos has enabled 277,787 out-of-school children to get a second chance to learn. Luminos currently operates classrooms in parts of Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East where students live in very challenging circumstances.

At 8 years old, Shurube is finally attending school for the first time through the Luminos program in #Ethiopia! Shurube’s father was eager to send her to school but struggled to make ends meet. When the free Luminos program opened in their community, he jumped at the opportunity! Today, Shurube is thriving in the Luminos program, and loves the activity-based learning lessons. One of Shurube’s favorite literacy activities is making letters out of clay which are then used as learning materials in the classroom. “English language is my favorite subject,” says Shurube. “I want to communicate in multiple languages!” When Shurube grows up, she wants to be a doctor. 👩⚕️ #educationforall #secondchance #sdg4
