About us

The Barry & Marie Lipman Family Prize, administered by the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, recognizes and amplifies the work of organizations creating sustainable solutions to significant social and economic challenges — with an emphasis on transferability and impact of practices. Founded in 2011, the annual global prize awards an unrestricted cash prize of $250,000 to the grand prize winner, and $125,000 to each of two additional winners, as well as non-monetary educational benefits which allow a member of the winning organization to take tuition-free courses at Penn. The Lipman Family Prize is made possible through a generous gift from Barry and Marie Lipman, and reflects their own strong commitment to socially responsible organizations and action. The Prize engages faculty, staff, and students from across Penn's 12 graduate schools. The work of the Prize resides within Wharton's McNulty Leadership Program and is conducted with the support of other university partners.
