📰 Big news for the Buffalo tech community this week! The Buffalo-Rochester-Syracuse region secured $40 million in federal funding as a tech hub supporting the national effort to increase American semiconductor manufacturing. “This is the federal government saying that the I-90 corridor is America’s semiconductor superhighway," New York Senator Chuck Schumer said. Out of 400 applications, and after a year-long process, this upstate New York regional tech hub was one of just 12 selected to receive funding from the CHIPS and Science Act. #Technology #Manufacturing #Buffalo

Job postings are meant to call the right person in! Salary transparency isn't a requirement for job postings in all parts of the country. But more and more states are beginning to mandate this as a legal requirement - New York instituted such a rule in September 2023. Having a well-defined range, and letting candidates know some of the factors that could affect where they may fall in that range, goes a long way towards attracting the right candidates to your open jobs! A general, vague job posting doesn't benefit anyone - the candidates applying, or the hiring team reviewing applicants. Specificity is key, but maybe not in the way you think. Some specificity in the skills and experience required helps potential applicants self-qualify if the job is right for them. Add too many specifics, though, and you risk turning away great people who might excel in the role but may not fit all the must-haves.
