Most people don’t give a second thought to the packaging a product comes in. In fact, they throw it away as soon as possible.   Not so for Alfredo Vázquez. The head of packaging at Libbey, Alfredo spends his days living “in and out of the box,” ensuring that every package that leaves a Libbey plant is attractive, efficient and protects the products inside.   “I have enjoyed the creative freedom offered by the world of packaging and guiding the talents of my team in this opportunity to be creative,” he says.   Alfredo, who has been with Libbey for nearly 40 years, enjoys solving packaging problems of all kinds – like optimizing performance and cost – while adjusting to the evolution of packaging at Libbey and throughout the industry.   “The new packaging challenge today is in the ecommerce channel,” Alfredo says. And despite his long tenure as a packaging professional, “I have a lot to learn,” he adds.   For his dedication to his work, his leadership and his flexibility, Alfredo is a true Libbey Maker. #formakersbymakers #libbeymaker #truelibbeymaker #leadership #creativity #winningasone #libbey #tabletop #cheers

Libbey is proud to be a member and partner of the Northwest Ohio Innovation Consortium, NOIC, who is a recent recipient of funding, announced by Office of Ohio Governor Mike DeWine this week. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, Lt. Governor Jon Husted, and Ohio Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik announced the creation of Ohio's first Innovation Hub, a new collaboration that will enhance northwest Ohio's position as a global leader in glass science, engineering, technology, and production. Supported by more than $31.3 million in state funding from the Ohio Innovation Hubs Program and $10.4 million in local investment, the new Northwest Ohio Glass Innovation Hub will build on Toledo's legacy as the "Glass Capital of the World" to accelerate innovation and job growth in both the glass sector and solar industry, which relies heavily on glass. “We continue to get excited for the momentum and impact that is being created by this collaboration of strong manufacturers, passionate educational institutions and civic leaders." said Jim Burmeister, Libbey SVP & CFO, and NOIC Board of Directors member. "When those three spaces come together, we all benefit. Our successes become bolder and more sustainable.” https://lnkd.in/g8pKRb87

Curious about how we judge? 🥃 Take a look at this behind-the-scenes video from the IWSC's recent Spirits Judging. 🔷We use a double-blind tasting process where the samples are poured behind a screen by our team. Unlike at other competitions, the judges don't see the shape of the bottle - they only see the liquid in the glass. 🔶Every spirit is judged by a balanced panel made up of industry experts who discuss each sample tasted. 🔷All gold and gold outstanding winners are re-tasted by a member of the independent Spirits Judging Committee to give the final seal of approval. The Committee also re-taste all 'borderline' scores. 🔶We are the only competition to limit the number of samples to a maximum of 65 tasted during each judging day. This allows time for panel discussions and prevents palate fatigue. 🔷We are one of the few competitions to provide free constructive feedback to non-winners. #iwsc #iwsc2024 #iwscspiritsjudging #spiritsjudging
