International Focus has the unique honor of hosting the Research Triangle Park (RTP) portion of the Trafficking in Persons Report Heroes International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP)! This group of awardees received awards in recognition for their efforts in fighting human trafficking around the world and it was truly an honor to get to meet and work with them. We wanted to thank all those involved who both shared their knowledge and learned from these awardees: Moore & Van Allen PLLC Sarah Byrne, NC Stop Human Trafficking, North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts (Human Trafficking Commission), NC State Bureau of Investigation (Human Trafficking Unit), and Legal Aid of North Carolina Without this group of experts, these programs would not be able to be facilitated in the Triangle. Another thanks to Historic Stagville for providing a historic perspective of slavery to those who work to fight its modern incarnation. This visit, arranged by Meridian International Center, in collaboration with the U.S. Department of State’s Office of International Visitors and the U.S. Department of State Trafficking in Persons Office, aims to foster international understanding in issues surrounding human trafficking. We are excited to engage with these leaders, supported by a fantastic team of interpreters ensuring seamless communication in Spanish, Arabic, and Bengali. We ❤️ our pro bono volunteers! Connor Crews, associate in the Raleigh office of McGuireWoods LLP and a volunteer with our Heir Property Pro Bono Project, recently helped one of our clients — a senior citizen and military veteran — untangle his home's "tangled title." Thanks to Connor's dedicated advocacy, our client now has sole ownership of his home — and all the peace of mind that comes with it. "Participating in the Heir Property Pro Bono Project was a great way to be of service to someone who needed assistance, and to learn something at the same time," Connor said. "I was glad to help my client become the sole owner of his property, and I hope I made him feel more comfortable in his own home." Thank you, Connor! Today we recognize Amanda Hinnant 💙 #employeespotlight Amanda is the Supervising Attorney at IMMPAV and is a compassionate leader who humbly and quietly keeps the team organized. She is an extremely zealous advocate for her clients who is able convince law enforcement to sign certifications for U visas even when they are initially reluctant to do so. Amanda's clients respect her, appreciate her and keep in touch with her even after Amanda has concluded her representation of them.
