In the early days of LeanData, I went out and sold our first 20 customers and was also the customer service representative. I had no background in sales or customer success but I really enjoyed talking to customers and still do. One of these early LeanData customers was Bruno Trimouille, the Director of Marketing at Vendavo. He had recently taken over our account after our previous champion left and didn’t know what we did and why he needed us, so I drove to his office on Middlefield road and met with him in person. He’s now a three-time LeanData customer and the CMO at Litera. It just goes to show that some of those early relationships can last through multiple companies. We called it virality internally and now there are entire companies such as UserGems 💎 or Boomerang that automatically track these. Bruno and I had a Buying Groups-themed session at last week’s MSP Live event (yes, on a docked boat). While we agreed that Buying Groups is not a new concept, what has changed is the technology available today that can enable a Buying Group GTM motion including having access to more buying signals such as virality or intent data.
