La Doña Cervecería, owned and managed by Sergio Manancero, quietly emerged in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2016. A beer enthusiast and Latino, Sergio and a partner started La Doña responding to the noticeable gaps in the regional brewery scene. They joined the 2% of craft breweries in the nation that are Latin owned. The married 33-year-old Marine Corps veteran with two tours in Afghanistan and the son of Uruguayan immigrants opened the brick-and-mortar version of La Doña in the Harrison neighborhood of North Minneapolis in 2018. The opening in a up-and-coming neighborhood was the realization of a space that serves the community, caters to the growing demographic of Latin craft beer enthusiasts, and promotes and celebrates Latin culture. Since then, Sergio, Head Brewer Dicky Lopez, and the dedicated team at La Doña have built a solid brand identity with the support of the Latin and Minneapolis communities. La Doña's mission statement reflects the commitment and complexities of running a Latin-owned brewery in any part of the United States. A quality product balanced with a focus on fostering connections within the community, providing a brewery space that introduces new experiences, and “raising awareness of and providing support to social, economic, and environmental issues that impact us all.” As pieces of the puzzle come together, La Doña Cervecería continues to grow as a cultural hub and unique player in the vibrant landscape of craft beer in Minnesota. October is flying by and Halloween will be here before we know it! Our amazing partners at La Doña Cervecería and Centro are hosting upcoming costume drives so all the kids at our shelter can get dressed up for holiday. You can donate new or gently used costumes from October 19 through October 23 at any Centro location. La Doña Cervecería will also be accepting costumes during their 5th anniversary celebration on October 21. Please make sure that your donated costumes are kid-friendly and culturally appropriate. Make sure to indulge in some delicious tacos and beverages during your visit to these wonderful businesses! We're so grateful to have caring partners like them in our community.
