About us

Flexible copywriting and creative services tailored to your marketing goals. Gain a senior-level brand partner to define and elevate your core value propositions to win over customers – again and again. Katie has been a professional writer for nearly 13 years, preceded by a lifetime of amateur pursuits including a rather robust newspaper for her childhood neighbors titled: The Twin Lake Times. Her work has appeared everywhere from cookbooks to grocery store freezer doors, direct mail, banks, and baseball stadiums. You name it, she’ll write for it. After more than a decade in full-time roles, most recently as a Director of Copy, Katie made the switch to consulting. As an independent contractor, she’s created a business suited for both her professional pursuits and personal life – which includes the cuteness and chaos of raising 2 children. kwarrencopy.com View portfolio, services, and pricing.

It's here: Now That's What I Call Copywriting™️ Vol. 4! KULE nails it with this copy, delivered last week inside the shipping package of my new striped t-shirt. Keeping your foot on the "brand gas" even after a purchase has been made is critical to building a memorable, valuable experience. The shipping insert wasn't an automated afterthought: It was another chance to add personality and reinforce the idea that the customer has made a great decision. That's truly the core of what we need as consumers – to be reassured, early and often, that we are making a good decision. 💡 I love the challenge here: "Not in love?" Leaning into the "if it's not a hell yes, it's a no," even at the risk of returns. It's more important that the customer thinks it's a hell yes. (For the record, the shirt is a hell yes for me and I'm wearing it right now.) And then the CTA: "Returns are free and easy." That's it. Simple is powerful. Straightforward return language implies that KULE is confident enough about its product that it's not a big deal if you need something different. They aren't gonna make it a whole thing. Kudos, KULE!! Who wrote this?! Always like to recognize the creatives involved. 👏

I still haven't summoned the strength to go camping with my own kids (who can help change my mind?), but that won't stop me from having the most fun with camping-themed emails for Hello Bello. All of their diapers are shipped in boxes designed for play, and this is one of my favorite designs in our 1+ years working together. 😍🏕

Happy Q2! Happy Now That's What I Call Copywriting™️ Vol. 3! I know Easter is over, but I can still hear the plastic eggs rolling around in my car, and the candy we regret buying for the kids lives on, hidden in the pantry. Hiding in the pantry eating candy where my children can't see me is exactly how I discovered this line – one that's deeply weird, seasonal, and memorable. (A combo you don't see often!) "The best hiding place is in your mouth." I love it when brands get weird with it... especially big-name, legacy brands. It's easy to lean on your hard-won equity and keep it expected. Nothing wrong with that! But the slow and steady growth of a brand like The Hershey Company has opened the door for some weirder vibes. This copy is reflective of what we're doing in the midst of Easter candy consumption (hiding treats in eggs) and it serves as a flat-out hilarious, uncomplicated CTA: Just put this peanut butter chocolate bunny in your mouth. The Hershey Company Who wrote this?! I want to give them credit for enhancing my secret pantry snacking. 😂 ✨

Finally putting something out there that's been a recurring series living solely in my head for years: Now That's What I Call Copywriting™️ Vol. 1 (The ™️ is an emoji and not an actual trademark although I'd like to think this name is a completely original idea as a millennial whose life was measured in NOW albums.) Finding copy in the wild that makes an impression is one of my favorite things about being a writer. Sometimes it's surprising, sometimes it's wickedly smart, and sometimes it's just plain delightful. Like this one from Pottery Barn Kids! "your one-hop shop" It's short! It's timely! It's clear! It's so dang cute! What more could you want in your seasonal merchandising? Kudos to whoever is the copywriter responsible for this. Wish I could tag you directly! 🐰

Client email spotlight! 🌟 This isn't your mother's diaper marketing. The brands gaining (and maintaining) traction with parents are the ones who meet them where they are: wading through a broken childcare system, trying to stay on top of personal and professional to-do's, and making yet another tiny bowl of cut-up fruit. Parents are tired. And they don't need to be told to enjoy every moment. Some days have a lot of magic. And others? New day, same 💩 Shout out to Hello Bello for letting me name an end-of-year promo the "Year-End Rear-End Sale." 😂 Design credit (fittingly) goes to a fellow K Warren: Kaitlyn Warren

Proud portfolio update! As someone who has been on continuous diaper duty since May 2019 😅 , it's a thrill to work with Hello Bello, a brand we rely on daily at home. (Hi, HB crew! 👋🏼 ) But to write copy for a Valentine's Day diaper design?! That I get to put on my very own 2-year-old valentine?! A true pinch-me moment. I love working at the intersection of mothering and marketing. And you can bet I'm stashing a few of these away to look back on when the diaper days are a distant memory. 💘

Hear me out: What if we just made lists of reasons for people to work with us? Instead of trying to filter ourselves, our skills, and our success through a weird business-speak filter? Everyone loves a list. The whole internet is made of lists! Here's mine. Reasons to work with me: -I'm never too precious about my work and handle feedback like a champ -I have a high EQ and am easy to collaborate with -I'm a quick thinker, and it's not often I run out of ideas -I don't give feedback for the sake of feedback -I always return my shopping cart where it belongs  -I love my job and have gotten very good at it over the course of 10+ years What's on your list? 👋🏼

Virtually nothing about freelance life is consistent... BUT I have found a gold standard by which I judge all potential work that hasn't failed me yet. ⚖ ✨ I've always loved the advice, "if it isn't a hell yes, it's a no," but this rule-following eldest daughter needs more specific parameters than that. Every opportunity I commit to has to check at least 2 of these 3 boxes: ✅ Do I like the purpose? What is this brand or product trying to achieve? Who is it serving? Do those elements align with my own values? Does helping to solve this problem energize me, or drain me? ✅ Do I like the profit? Self explanatory: Does the hourly rate or project fee match up to my income goals? Money matters. We can't be afraid to act like it! ✅ Do I like the people? My gut has never steered me wrong. Beloved colleagues from a past career? Yes! Brand-new connections that I instantly click with? Yes! Teams who undervalue copy and have no clear stakeholder process? No! Getting all three? THE DREAM. But, I've found that even 2/3 is consistently a successful formula. Do you have a "golden rule" for freelance and contract work? Also, if you have any "all three" clients, don't forget to tell them how much you love them. 💌
