Kiwa PVEL's Mechanical Stress Sequence (#MSS) surpasses IEC/UL certification for more thorough module and cell durability testing. It detects potential glass and cell cracking vulnerabilities through static load testing. Dynamic mechanical load and climate chamber assess power output reduction due to cell cracks, crucial for sites facing extreme weather such as heavy snow and high winds. MSS also evaluates how cell damage from manufacturing defects, transportation, handling or environmental stresses will impact module performance. Scroll through to read this year's key takeaways from the test, and then visit scorecard.pvel.com/mss for more!

Kiwa PVEL is excited to announce that we have been awarded to study “New Cells, New Issues: Stress Tests for N-type PV Module Designs” as part of the Durable Module Materials (#DuraMAT) Consortium. The study will create the largest dataset on ultraviolet-induced degradation (#UVID) and potential-induced degradation (#PID) for commercial modules ever published. Our research will provide a comparison of UVID testing results to other stress tests, as well as evaluate lab UVID to field exposure to determine if accelerated testing degradation simulates outdoor degradation. Stay tuned for updates as we explore state-of-the-art n-type reliability, define new test sequences targeting emerging degradation modes, and drive improvements in n-type PV module service life. Moisture and heat can weaken the materials binding #solar modules together. When these bonds weaken due to low-quality components and/or substandard lamination processes, moisture can enter the laminate and cause corrosion and/or delamination. Kiwa PVEL's Damp Heat (DH) test instigates long-term degradation and failure modes that are typical in high temperatures and high humidity conditions. Scroll to see the Test Result Spotlight from this year's #PVScorecard, then visit scorecard.pvel.com/dh to learn more! ☀️

Kiwa PVEL’s Damp Heat (DH) test instigates long-term degradation and failure modes that are typical in high temperatures and high humidity conditions, where moisture and heat can weaken the materials binding the module together. Our PQP test is 2000 hours, double the duration of the IEC/UL certification test. In the 2024 Scorecard, we saw an increase in the failure rates of BOMs tested for DH. But it's not all bad news -- scroll to read the #DampHeat key takeaways, then visit scorecard.pvel.com/dh to learn more!

On every page of the 2024 Scorecard, you'll find valuable #pvmodule procurement insights. ☀️ Below we highlight why it is important to go beyond certification testing with an example from our #ThermalCycling test. Scroll through to read the full spotlight, then visit scorecard.pvel.com for more!

Kiwa PVEL's PQP’s Thermal Cycling (TC) test extends the IEC/UL certification test from 200 to 600 cycles, more accurately simulating a PV module’s lifespan of temperature fluctuations. Extreme temperature swings stress #pvmodule components, degrading bonds within the module and junction box that could substantially reduce performance. This test is crucial for environments with significant day-to-night temperature differences. Scroll to read the key takeaways from 2024, then visit https://lnkd.in/eQCPuxhD for more!
