Have we ever told you the story behind our name, Kanarys? The canary in a coal mine was once a mining tradition to ensure workers' safety underground. Coal miners would often carry the birds into the mines to monitor the quality of the air while they worked. At the end of the day, when workers emerged from the mines, the healthy birds symbolized a workplace environment that was nontoxic and safe. Just like the canaries that alerted miners of a toxic atmosphere, Kanarys aims to diagnose whether a workplace is healthy for employees by surfacing the “canaries,” providing companies with the framework, benchmarking, and data they need to incorporate best-in-class DEI practices in every area of their organization. 💛 #DEIB #DiversityEquityInclusion #WorkplaceDiversity #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #DEI #Belonging

Meet Mandy Price, the powerhouse behind Kanarys, Inc. In 2018, Mandy put aside her career as a successful Harvard-educated attorney to co-found Kanarys. She was inspired to change the world around her. Ultimately, she knew it was her life’s calling to help workplaces examine the way they do things at a foundational level. Mandy's trailblazing efforts have garnered both local and national recognition. In 2023, she was honored as a finalist for the prestigious EY Entrepreneur Of The Year 2023 Southwest Award, celebrated as a Founder of the Year on AfroTech's Future 50 List, and recognized as a 2023 Top HR Tech Influencer by Human Resource Executive. In addition, Mandy has been featured on Inc.'s Female Founders 100 list, named one of Entrepreneur Magazine's Top 100 Most Powerful Women of 2020, and received numerous local accolades such as D Magazine's Dallas 500, D CEO and Dallas Innovates' Innovation Award in Talent and Diversity, Dallas Business Journal's Women in Business Award, and more. Join us in celebrating Mandy Price, the driving force behind Kanarys and a true champion of diversity, equity, and inclusion!

Despite Black women receiving only 0.06% of venture capital funding, Kanarys co-founder and CEO, Mandy Price, has defied the odds. Last year, she successfully raised over $10M in VC funding to help companies advance and measure DEIB within their organization. 👏 This accomplishment placed Mandy among a select group of fewer than 20 Black female founders who have raised over $10M, and with this funding, Kanarys became the first Black and female-founded company based in Texas to achieve this milestone. This groundbreaking accomplishment not only highlights Mandy's tenacity and business acumen but also serves as an inspiration for all underrepresented entrepreneurs who strive to make a difference.

Last month, the Greater Washington Area Chapter (GWAC) of the NATIONAL BAR ASSOCIATION's Women's Lawyer Division (WLD) hosted a panel discussion examining the results of our recent collaborative report, “The State of Black Women in the Law.” The report indicates that although legal organizations are making progress toward diversity and inclusion, Black women attorneys still face significant underrepresentation, discrimination, and the responsibility of educating others on DEIB solely based on their race. In the face of rapid changes in the DEI landscape, geopolitical tensions, and generational shifts, the workplace is poised for a significant transformation in the year ahead. At Kanarys, we have identified key trends that will transform the workplace in 2024 and beyond. Explore our dive into one of 2024’s biggest workplace trends: there will be increased AI regulation to address and mitigate inequities. Kanarys partners with companies to conduct independent audits of their organization's AI tools to determine any adverse impact across the entire employment decision-making process, including recruitment and hiring based on race, gender, ethnicity, age, and intersectional identities, retention, performance, and referral. At Kanarys, we’re focused on providing data-driven tools, like AI assessments, that organizations need to create long-term, systemic change around DEI challenges. On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we take a moment to honor and reflect upon the legacy of one of the greatest civil rights leaders in history. Dr. King's powerful words and courageous actions continue to inspire us. It is not enough to remember him just today, but every day. To honor Dr. King, we must continue to fight for justice and equality in our society. At Kanarys, we are committed to creating workplaces that foster equal opportunities for all, where everyone can thrive and reach their full potential. MLK Day is more than just a day of reflection. It is a call to action. We must work together every day to realize Dr. King's vision for a more equitable and inclusive America.
