#Hezbollah's use of drones marks a notable and unprecedented escalation of its attacks on #Israel. June is a single-month record with >130 launches, up 200% vs May. Difficult to track and identify, yet precise, these weapons can overwhelm and evade Israel’s advanced air defenses to neutralize sensitive Israeli sites and target Israel’s population centers. To help counteract this threat, the United States should accelerate the shipment of vital military assets to Israel and support its partner’s right to defend itself against this unprovoked aggression. The Gaza war has been intensely scrutinized with questions about the Israel Defense Forces' strategy, operations, legality of conduct, concern for mitigating harm to civilians, and provision of humanitarian assistance are being raised and actively debated from the public square to international organizations and governments. To address this, JINSA assembled a task force of retired U.S. generals, admirals, and military law experts, to evaluate the military conduct of both the IDF and Hamas. Based on primary source research, a fact-finding trip to Israel, and discussions with senior Israeli, international aid agency, and United Nations officials, their report provides operational, legal, strategic, informational, and contextual observations to assist American policymakers and military leaders seeking to understand this conflict and its implications. They conclude that IDF operations to destroy Hamas are entirely justified, carried out in compliance with the Laws of Armed Conflict, and conducted with operational excellence despite the complex urban environment created by Hamas’s heavy fortification of the Gaza Strip. https://lnkd.in/gAifqvcM

According to JINSA data, Hezbollah's 60-rocket barrage on February 26 targeting Israel sparked a more than three-fold increase in the weekly average number of projectiles fired daily from Lebanon into Israel, as JINSA Policy Analyst Zachary Schildcrout notes. https://lnkd.in/eBCRz4wb Spikes in rocket fire from Lebanon "frequently occur after Israeli strikes inflict substantial pain on Hezbollah, suggesting that Hezbollah seeks to compel Israel to reduce the military pressure that the IDF is exerting on the terrorist group." This dynamic will likely continue until Hezbollah is deterred, which "largely requires convincing Hezbollah that the United States will back Israel in, and possibly even enter, a full-scale war should one become necessary to restore security for Israel’s northern residents."
