Today marks #BlackWomensEqualPayDay, highlighting the ongoing struggle for equal pay for equal work. Black women shouldn't have to wait another two centuries for pay equity, yet the latest data from IWPR indicate that it will take over 200 years—until 2227—for Black women’s pay to equal that of White men for full-time, year-round workers. For pay equity across all earnings, it will take until 2362. Read our full statement: https://lnkd.in/e8htqJgb

On the second anniversary of the Dobbs decision and the overturn of Roe v. Wade, we reflect on the harmful impact it has had on women and families. Since this ruling, many states have passed bans and enacted extreme restrictions that harm the health all women, particularly Black, Latina, low-income, young, rural, and LGBTQIA+ individuals who already face systemic obstacles. IWPR data show these bans not only reduce women's participation in the workforce but also lead to significant wage losses, harming their economic stability and the financial security of their families. 📢 NEW from IWPR: Ahead of the second anniversary of the overturn of Roe v. Wade, new data from IWPR reveals that state abortion bans are costing the US economy $68 billion annually. These bans reduce workforce participation among women, leading to a significant loss in wages and economic power for women and their families. Since the overturn, restrictive bans have disproportionately harmed Black, Latina, low-income, young, and rural women, as well as LGBTQ+ individuals. This not only impacts women’s economic opportunities but also businesses and state economies. Read the latest: https://lnkd.in/ezX6Chbs

NEW from IWPR: The Retirement Income Gap Leaves Women Aged 65+ at Higher Risk of Poverty than Men At 32.6 percent, the gender gap in retirement income—the sum of pension and Social Security income—was 4.0 percent larger than the 28.0 percent gender gap in median earnings in 2021. Women’s account balances are the main driver of this gap. Read more on this from our latest Quick Figure: https://lnkd.in/e34QxHHN
