Parking structure maintenance & repair | Technology for civil, structural, and forensic engineers

Is generating a custom inspection report in a few minutes feasible? One use case of artificial intelligence that I am keeping an eye on is inspection report generation. The premise of this type of technology is ingesting inspection data (photos, videos, voice memos, etc.), and having artificial intelligence analyze the data to convert it into a written report format. I wanted to highlight a specific application that makes use of this technology by the team at InspectMind AI (YC W24). Here is what I like about the software: -The editable nature of the file the software produces (MS Word) allows you to take full control over the end deliverable and not be subject to a boilerplate pdf (like most inspection software I have tested). -Customers of the application can customize report templates based on the specifics of their business and individual workflows. -The application is general in nature, and not limited to any one specific inspection use case. I'm including some snips from the application, based on a residential structural inspection, to give you an idea of how it works. Want more information on the product? Comment "Automate" and I'll get you connected to the team. #inspection #ai #reporting

With the YC W24 batch ended, reflecting on my first 4 months of startup journey with InspectMind AI (YC W24), despite all the difficulties, it has been extremely rewarding. I concluded the reasons as follows: 1. Helping customers and solving real pain points A customer told me in his words “I’m dying writing reports today in the office”. His usually few hundred pages report takes him 1 week to write and it’s boring and tedious, now with our app, it takes 15 minutes. I visited him on the jobsite and saw the real pains on his face whenever he even talks about writing reports. With InspectMind, he plans to double his income, and that money goes into supporting his family of 2 kids. We are now talking to a few big customers with $XXB revenues. But at the end of the day, we’re helping the individual person do their job easier, this is the fundamental reason why we even start this company. Hearing users saying “the app worked very well” “this is so much better than how I do it today” is the most satisfying and it reassures me the meaning of my work. And as a result of happy customers, we can build a good profitable business. 2. Doing something that has never been done before Building InspectMind app is a very creative process for me. We’re the first people to solve inspection report writing problems with this AI angle. I study a few hundred pages inspection reports, and connect dots together: inspection domain knowledge, what AI can do as a tool, conversations with users, design a smooth user experience, code and launch, get users’ feedback and iterate. It’s all in the details: UI, faster loading, offline mode... Building software is a craft that I think is very similar to building a physical item like a chair. And no matter what that chair should look like, as long as physics allows it, it’s doable! Design a path to break any problem down into small pieces, and solve each piece one by one. A few nights it got me too excited to sleep thinking of how we can put UX, AI, robots together to solve inspections or other physical problems alike. It’s fun to build this app. 3. Having an amazing cofounder to work with My cofounder Aakash Prasad might just be the most positive person I’ve met. He somehow managed to view every situation in a positive way, e.g. I got frustrated over rejections from potential customers, he told me hey it’s never a waste of time talking to customers at this stage, when they don’t buy, we learn a lesson. Don’t think of sales as win or loss, because then you get discouraged. Think of no as an opportunity to learn. We always learn something, and that helps us clarify which potential customers to not serve and move faster. Aakash always amazed me with his positive thinking, passion and focus, which I think comes from facing hard things and overcoming them, repeat that 1k times. And we’re fully on the same page in what matters is our customers and nothing else.

    AI for Construction

Today we InspectMind AI (YC W24) finished the YC batch and demo day. In the past I didn't know what to make of YC -- was it hype or was there more to it? After going through YC for the first time as a multi time founder, I am now a real believer! In the last not even three months in the batch, we launched our product, got early paying customers and MRR, raised our round in one week, and now have some of the biggest names in our industry including $XXB revenue AEC firms in our customer pipeline. And our plan is to turn profitable / cash flow positive this year itself. Normally when you are starting a company it can take as long as six months to put a round together. At InspectMind AI (YC W24) we had over 150+ (we stopped counting at some point) investors come to us inbound during the YC batch even before Demo Day and our round got done and oversubscribed in a week. We ended up accepting money from 50 investors and plan to meet the rest next time. I don't know if that happens outside of YC unless maybe if you are OpenAI. I wasn't sure if being in YC would help us with customer acquisition since we are selling to a traditional industry (construction) and not the typical YC focus area. But the exposure got us customer leads from all over the world, including a surprising density in Australia of all places. So here is my honest testimonial for YCombinator: YC makes the whole process of starting and building a company way more fun and a lot less lonely. I highly recommend it, 200%, even if you are a repeat / multi time founder.
