In May, the Educating All Learners Alliance and New America convened educators, school administrators, parents, disability rights advocates, researchers, government, industry, and privacy experts to delve into the opportunities and challenges of deliberately designing and implementing artificial intelligence (AI) to uphold civil rights protections for students with disabilities. Participants shared best practices and crucial issues in using AI in education to support students with disabilities resulting in the following principles were established, offering actionable steps for different actors involved in utilizing AI in education specifically highlighting the risk and opportunities for students with disabilities. While attempts to use artificial intelligence (AI) in education are not new, the recent widespread awareness and emerging use cases of generative AI have sparked significant interest in AI’s potential to support students with disabilities. Check out the newly released policy paper from Educating All Learners Alliance and New America: https://lnkd.in/gyGNCtir This policy paper is designed to inform and guide policymakers at all levels, from local school boards to national education departments, who are responsible for shaping education policy in the age of artificial intelligence (AI). "Technology has been magical for my son’s education. 🦄✨ He has dysgraphia, a disability related to handwriting. The right accommodations, like text-to-speech, have allowed him to unlock his brilliance. I want other students to have access to the help they need, too. But the current state of our education system makes this an incredibly difficult feat. The core of the problem is clear: We lack data interoperability across our entire education system. We need to build data infrastructure that is accessible as a public utility throughout the country. I dove into the magic that modern data infrastructure unlocks for students with my colleagues Curt M. and Mike Baur on the latest episode of Resultant’s podcast #DataDrivenLeadership." - CEO, Erin Mote Listen here: https://hubs.ly/Q02FTN520
