Feature Presentation at Infraday SE - July 18 - Nashville - www.infraday.com/se- "Bridging the Digital Divide: Promoting Digital Equity in Clayton County, GA" - Clayton County is the 3rd smallest county by area and the 5th most populous county in the state. With a population of almost 300k residents, addressing digital inequities is inevitable. According to FCC data, Clayton County is nearly fully served by high-speed internet. However, almost 20% of residents do not subscribe to high-speed internet, likely because of affordability. The goal of the Office of Digital Equity is to ensure that residents not only have access to affordable and reliable internet, but that they have access to the digital devices and skills needed to survive and compete in the digital world. This will be presented by Takiyah J Thomas, LGCIO, Digital Equity Administrator, Department of Information Technology, Clayton County Board of Commissioners

Feature Presentation at Infraday SE - July 18 - Nashville - www.infraday.com/se- "Using Smart Technology to Improve Work Zone Safety" - Rear end collisions due to unexpected, stopped traffic is the number one cause of Work Zone related crashes, making up over 40% of Rural Interstate and 30% of urban interstate work. As such, queue protection is the most valuable tool that DOTs have to prevent work zone related crashes along our freeways and interstates. Long duration road work along our controlled access roadways creates several scenarios that create unexpected slowed and stopped traffic. Due to the changing nature of queues, traditionally this task has been conducted by vehicles that are able to change location with traffic conditions. However, the new “Smart Technology” now allows for dynamic messaging to be displayed that reflects real time changes in traffic conditions. These systems provide numerous warnings of downstream traffic conditions which have been shown to be much more effective in reducing crashes and be done at a significant cost savings compared to traditional methods of queue protection. This will be presented by Jason Quicksall, State Work Zone Engineer, Traffic Design Division, Tennessee Department of Transportation #smarttechnology #safety #tdot

Presentations from Infraday MT States held June 6th in Denver are now available for viewing online. Please view one of the featured presentations delivered by Daniel Sheeter, Principal Transportation Planner/Multimodal Design Lead and Michael Koslow, Project Manager, Transportation, City of Boulder, "How The City of Boulder Implemented the first Tall Curb Protected Bike Lane in the US on Baseline Road" - https://lnkd.in/eT2fyrHN - Have you ever wondered as a bike facility planner or designer whether a precast curb or flexible delineator post would provide enough protection against errant vehicles, but been reluctant to introduce a Jersey barrier into an urban mobility context? With 18” Tall Curbs, Boulder has found the “best of both worlds” in ensuring there is nominal (but not guaranteed) physical Tall Curb protection from an errant vehicle for corridors with heavy vehicle volumes and speed limits of 30, 35, or 40 mph. Learn how engineers and planners worked together to install the first Tall Curb protected bike lane in the US on Baseline Road in less than 6 months! The Transportation and Mobility Department is aggressively working to implement Boulder’s Core Arterial Network with a safe systems approach per the City’s commitment to Vision Zero, including a City Council priority corridor on Baseline Road. The project included an iterative design approach through all phases of the project to meet this aggressive deadline. In addition to the challenges of a truncated schedule the team had to take into consideration future safety projects, transit route/stop integration, traffic operations, and signal progression. Finally, the team shared its adaptive approach to designing side street intersection treatments and an interim protected intersection that integrated both hard and soft elements, and how the team helped the public learn to move through these new facilities.

Feature Presentation at Infraday MST - June 6 - Denver - www.infraday.com/mst - "What is a sustainable bioeconomy, and how can we realize this vision through strategic investments in research and development?" - The US Department of Energy Bioenergy Technologies Office’s (BETO) mission is to develop tools and technologies that enable the conversion of sustainable and renewable feedstocks into the fuels and chemicals that drive our economy. This presentation will introduce the transformative potential of renewable fuels and products, highlighting advances made by specific investments like the Agile BioFoundry, the BOTTLE consortium, and investments made in the Mountain West. This conversation will include actions being taken to advance the visionary principles outlined in the Bold Goals report, deriving from the recent Executive Order on Advancing Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing Innovation for a Sustainable, Safe, and Secure American Bioeconomy. We will discuss how ongoing research and development supports the transition away from petroleum dependence to a sustainable bioeconomy that provides the materials and chemicals essential for daily life. BETO’s mission addresses both environmental and climate concerns and also provides a path to supply chain resilience and energy independence. This will be presented by Gayle Bentley, Technology Manager, Bioenergy Technologies Office, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). #bioenergy #renewables #sustainability

Feature Presentation at Infraday MST - June 6 - Denver - www.infraday.com/mst - "The U.S. Department of Energy’s Fusion Program" - Fusion energy holds the promise of an inherently safe and carbon-free, baseload power source. The White House, supported by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), announced a “bold decadal vision” to accelerate the nations efforts to get fusion energy on the grid in a decadal timeframe. Significant efforts are underway to partner with private companies to fill science and technology gaps and to leverage their capabilities to make fusion power a reality. In the public sector, DOE is actively involved with several efforts including the ITER (pronounced EE-tur) project, which will deliver at reactor scale, a burning plasma experiment designed to operate at 500 MW power. This presentation will look broadly at both the commercial and public efforts to bring fusion power to the grid in the fastest timeline possible. This will be presented by Jeff Thomas, Program Manager, U.S. Contributions to ITER Project, U.S. Department of Energy #fusionenergy #carbonfree https://lnkd.in/e33tNsg7
