We're still digesting and integrating all that we learnt at the IABC Chicago World Conference – as we're sure you are too! Read these key takeaways Monique Zytnik has written up about Candace Denison, APR's brilliant session. We love seeing your posts from the Conference, let us know in the comments which sessions had the greatest impact on you! #IABCEMENA #ChicagoWorldConference
Helping companies communicate with their people | Passionate about internal communication | Keynote speaker | Published author | Podcaster | IABC EMENA Region Incoming Chair
➡️ READ this post for key takeaways: With the ease of content and synthetic media production, I know that disinformation is at the top of communication leader's minds. The impact on personal or company brand can be devastating. Content authentication/verification techniques are still being refined (e.g. using blockchain). This is why Candace Denison, APR session at the IABC World Conference in Chicago was one of the top on my must-see list. Her clear message is that yes, misinformation can be combatted with good, prepared comms BUT disinformation and malinformation needs to go straight to the lawyers hit home. Great corporate communication can't fix everything. Disinformation and malinformation - with deliberate intent can become misinformation as it trundles along the food chain. See the third slide. SO we can step in to help stop the spread some of the time. My key takeaway was that the basic anti-misinformation comms strategy needs to: 1. Repeat facts 2. Be human and empathetic 3. Provide alternative and additional information - clearly stating why it isn't true. The more detailed, the better. Expose vested interest. 4. Use a credible source that is credible for your audience. Trust has shifted from authorities to "somebody like me." Some crisis comms even use their cute mascot as their audience trust it more over a real person (?!!?!) Depending on the type/ intent/ drivers of the misinformation, then the messaging and tactics shift slightly. See the slide with orange and yellow bubbles for more info. Candace was great in debunking myths around this topic and explaining what current research shows to be best practice. It is something that every communication professional should incorporate into their business continuity plan as a corporate risk AND inform themselves about. THANK YOU Candace. Food for thought. 💡Monique --- Keen to hear your experience with this topic

In the era of AI summaries, creating concise, yet impactful communication is more vital than ever. As Nicki Kastellorizios-Lee highlights, the information overload means we must craft messages that are both clear and compelling to capture the fleeting attention of modern readers. Embracing AI as a tool, not a threat, allows us to maintain the integrity of our voice and ensure our messages are 'read-worthy'. Let's keep our communications short, sweet, and meaningful to thrive in this digital age! Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/e6iN-iQa #IABC #Catalyst #IABCEMENA #Communication #AI #Writing
