📢 Report shows sharp increase in people without electricity, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa. A recent report by the International Energy Agency (IEA), the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), The World Bank, and the World Health Organization (WHO) finds that the world remains far off course to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7 for energy by 2030. 685 million people lacked electricity in 2022, a huge increase of 10 million from the previous year, driven largely by population growth in Sub-Saharan Africa outpacing new electricity connections. Factors exacerbating this include the global energy crisis, inflation, and geopolitical tensions, making it harder to meet energy needs. Although decentralized energy solutions, particularly those based on renewable sources, are gaining traction especially in rural areas where the majority of people without electricity reside, efforts must intensify to meet SDG 7 targets. His passion for understanding and catering to the aspirations of our rural customers has been incredibly fulfilling. His mornings start with strong coffee, a newspaper, and playful moments with his kittens, never forgetting to set his priorities in order. Ashwin's secret wish is to possess Batman's resourcefulness and detective skills to navigate the vast data and insights he processes daily. In his spare time, he indulges in writing short stories and essays, a hidden talent that adds a creative flair to his analytical mind.
