We're thrilled to kick off our new series showcasing success stories from our clients. First up is Nigerdock, a leading maritime and logistics company in Lagos, Nigeria. We sat down with Temitope Odulate, Facilities Director at Nigerdock, who shared insights into the benefits of adding solar to their power mix. By integrating solar into their self-generation, Nigerdock has seen: ✅ 20% reduction in monthly energy costs ✅ 40% displacement of daytime power consumption ✅ 250 MT of carbon emissions offset in the first year "Daystar's solar solution is a game-changer for Nigerdock. We've seen a significant reduction in costs, improved reliability, and a positive impact on the environment. Their team's expertise, communication, and turnaround time have been exceptional. We look forward to scaling up to 100% clean energy with Daystar's help.” We’re proud to support Nigerdock in its transition to renewable energy. #renewableenergy #solar https://lnkd.in/gVU3eMeG

Daystar Power provides businesses in Africa with clean, continuous and affordable power.
About us
Sub-Saharan Africa is in the middle of a power crisis, with large portions of the population not having access to electricity. Businesses and consumers who do have access to the grid, often have to deal with daily power outages which can last up to several days. Most businesses across Sub-Saharan Africa rely on expensive and polluting diesel generators to bridge the supply-demand gap of electricity. Daystar Power focuses on hybrid solar power solutions for commercial customers for either a cash sale or a monthly fee. Daystar Power delivers three significant benefits to its customers: 1) reducing the cost of energy, 2) providing a stable power supply and 3) reducing pollution.

Are you concerned about solar energy causing disruptions to your power setup? No need to worry. Our hybrid solar systems are designed to fully integrate with your existing system and will switch between grid and gas and diesel generators. We add a synchronized panel to allow clients to switch to whichever power source is available, avoiding any disruptions to the power supply. A good example is our 600 kWp installation for our Lagos-based client Primlaks. We added a synchronized panel to the solar system, allowing it to switch between solar, diesel generator, and grid power. In case you missed it, interesting developments in finance are afoot in Africa’s solar industry. For the first time, multilateral finance corporations are issuing green bonds to support the rollout of solar for businesses in Africa. In February, the IFC - International Finance Corporation and Social Investment Managers & Advisors (SIMA Funds) issued a $150 million green bond to support the development of rooftop solar energy for small and medium-sized enterprises. The fund will target manufacturing, services, education, healthcare, and agribusiness sectors and finance over 220 MW of solar energy and electricity storage projects. https://lnkd.in/dwxSQ_uW

"This exorbitant diesel price makes business planning a nightmare. It's enough to deter investors. Many businesses like mine are on the brink of collapse." This quote captures the devastating impact of high diesel prices on Nigerian businesses. According to BusinessDay, diesel is trading at N1,700 per liter, leading to crippling costs for businesses relying on generators. But, solar can help businesses reduce soaring fuel costs. By adding solar into their energy mix, Nigerian businesses can dramatically curb their use of diesel generators, driving cost savings and lowering carbon emissions. At Daystar Power, we go the extra mile in our designs to increase the efficiency of our hybrid solar solutions. This is especially true for our large industrial clients, who have unique power requirements compared to a multi-location client, like a bank or a gas station. For example, we often add transformers into our solar solutions for large industrial manufacturers, such as Nigerian Bottling Company and Atlantic Shrimpers, to reduce costs and boost efficiency. Here's how it works👇 The Challenge: Most factories require medium voltage (11kV) for their manufacturing process. Given that factory sites easily span kilometers, we’d have to use significant amounts of cabling to connect the solar plants to the inverter room and distribution points. It’s costly and inefficient. Our Solution: Instead, we add transformers to our solar installation design. The transformers step up the voltage and reduce current. This allows us to use smaller cross-sectional cables, which are 10-30% cheaper than low-voltage cabling. Today, we’ve integrated 13 transformers into projects across our 400 project portfolio. Today, we're taking a trip down memory lane to remember our first solar installation: a 27kWp solar system for the German Technical Advisory Group (GTAG) of the German army in Abuja, Nigeria. Over the years, GTAG has supported the Nigerian army with development training for its soldiers. In 2017, we installed a 27kWp (25kWac) solar system that integrated with the grid as well as a 50kVA generator — that is a small solar project compared to the +1MW installations we’re completing today! It’s important to remember that there were the early days of Nigeria’s C&I solar industry. The client remarked that it was a top-quality installation and one of the best they’ve experienced from a Nigerian company. We went on to expand that particular site and install another four solar solutions. Today, we’re operating a total of 282kWp/285kWac solar systems and 280kWh batteries across five GTAG sites. Fast forward seven years and our portfolio has grown dramatically. With more than 400 projects completed in seven countries, Daystar has 100 MW of power-generating assets. Exciting news for the South African energy sector! ✨ South Africa’s National Assembly passed the Electricity Regulation Amendment (ERA) Bill. The legislation could pave the way for a more competitive and efficient electricity market. It aims to: ✅ Create an open market platform for buying and selling electricity, fostering competition and potentially driving down prices. ✅ Establish a Transmission System Operator (TSO) to manage the grid & ensure smooth power flow across the country. ✅ Strengthen the energy regulator to oversee the transition to a competitive market and protect consumers from price manipulation. ✅ Crackdown on theft and vandalism. https://lnkd.in/dykK_9XK

Did you know? Last year, South Africa experienced 6,776 hours, or 326 days, of load shedding. That means that there were only 39 days of uninterrupted power supply. Rolling blackouts disrupt business operations, damage equipment, and ultimately hurt a business's bottom line. At Daystar Power, we're dedicated to providing embedded hybrid solar solutions tailored to the unique power needs of South African businesses. By integrating solar into a behind-the-meter power solution, companies reduce their reliance on an unstable grid and save on energy costs. Are you ready to make the switch?
