This month’s employee spotlight is Kasen Van Fossen, Business Development Manager - East Coast!
Kasen’s career journey began with his acceptance to the University of Florida, where he majored in pre-professional biology intending to pursue dentistry. After graduation, he worked for a local dentist but quickly realized dentistry wasn't his passion. Influenced by his father, a salesman turned business owner, Kasen shifted to a sales career, seeking a fast-paced and challenging environment, eventually leading him to HMT.
With family ties to the oil and gas industry, Kasen had always considered joining the field. When the opportunity to join HMT arose, he was excited to enter an industry he felt connected to. Starting at HMT with limited knowledge of the oil and gas industry, Kasen relied on the company's outstanding team to guide him. Their support helped him become a valuable resource to clients. Just before his first anniversary with the company, Kasen embraced new challenges and roles, aiming to build stronger relationships with clients and the team.
Nearly two years into his role as a Business Development Manager for the East Coast region, Kasen focuses on building meaningful relationships with owner-operators and supporting the design, construction, and maintenance of their tanks. He developed a keen interest in HMT's products division, which manufactures and installs internal floating roofs, primary and secondary seals, geodesic domes, and emissions reduction devices. This interest led him to support the East and Gulf regions with technical expertise, providing internal and external training on best practices for these products.
Kasen enjoys the constant potential for improvement in HMT and the industry. From his first day, he has learned from individuals at all levels, from welders to VPs and CEOs, all contributing to making the industry safer and more sustainable.
Growing up, Kasen’s father encouraged him to play golf to learn dedication and patience and develop future working relationships. Although he didn't listen at the time, Kasen now finds golf an important part of his life for all the reasons his father mentioned. He humorously notes that not listening to his dad has given him the unique skill of being able to throw his clubs farther than he can hit the ball.
