✅67,000+ health professionals ✅23 health organizations ✅1 objective: We call on the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to review the current peer-reviewed evidence of the public health and health equity harms of the entire Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) lifecycle from fracking to exports. 📢 Health professionals across the country assert that if the DOE reviews this extensive scientific evidence, they will, like us, find that continued LNG exports are not in the public interest. A new study from researchers at the Center for Climate Change Communication, George Mason University and the University of Maryland School of Medicine reveals how role model stories of health professionals engaging in climate and sustainability action can be effective in helping inspire others to do the same. "Highlighting the stories of influential healthcare role models may be one important method of mobilizing more health professionals to take up the critical role of climate and sustainability advocacy." #ClimateChange #Health #HealthProfessionals #Doctors #Nurses #HealthCare #ClimateAction #ClimateIsHealth

Rural Americans face rising mental health challenges due to climate change. Wildfire smoke and extreme weather contribute to anxiety, depression, and higher suicide rates. Limited mental health services and stigma worsen the crisis. “Most of the research into the impact of climate change, along with efforts to mitigate the effects, have focused on urban areas.…That leaves 60 million people—about one in every five Americans—living in rural areas for which there is little data on how climate change is affecting their health and how they can better adapt to those changes.” #ClimateChange #Health #WildfireSmoke #Wildfires #ExtremeWeather #RuralAmerica #MentalHealth #ClimateIsHealth

A week after hosting our annual 'We're Not Happy About Climate Change' Happy Hour, all that's left to say is THANK YOU to everyone who joined and helped make it happen. We celebrated, connected, and learned more about the work ahead. We also continued to talk about the unique role health professionals can play in addressing the climate crisis while working to center health equity and environmental justice. Thanks to legislative guests Rep. Patty Acomb, Rep. Jess Hanson, Rep. Frank Hornstein, and Rep. Liz Reyer. Extra thanks to Rep. Frank Hornstein for letting us share Be Frank buttons (check out the photo below!) in honor of his leadership protecting Minnesotans' health through climate legislation. As Rep. Frank Hornstein retires from the legislature, we challenge policymakers to #BeFrank about climate. If you attended, what were the highlights for you?💡

Health professionals Dr. Paula Thomsen and Dr. Dan Trajano have long been fierce advocates for electric school bus funding in Minnesota. It's true about electric school buses: "It's this trifecta of health, academics, and environment." That's why health professionals are organizing for a healthier, more equitable climate — one electric school bus at a time.⚡ 🚌 ⚡ Check out 100%'s highlight!
Have you seen the news about how the federal government is giving over $1 Billion dollars to local school districts to buy electric school buses? Low-income, rural and tribal communities are slated to receive roughly 67% of the total funding—funding which is going to make a real impact on the lives and health of Minnesota kids. We are proud to know two people who were critical to Minnesota getting a piece of that funding, and to state investing $13 million on electric school buses this biennium, doctors Dan Trajano and Paula Thomsen. Listen to their story and learn how these doctors learned about the health impacts of diesel buses and how that drove them to take climate action.

⚡67 electric school buses are coming to Minnesota schools!⚡ Last week, the Environmental Protection Agency's Clean School Bus Rebate Program awarded several Minnesota school districts with grants to replace old, polluting buses with clean, electric school buses. ✅ This is a step forward for our health, communities, and climate. ✅ That's because diesel air pollution is linked to asthma and other conditions that harm health and cause students to miss school. We know low-income communities and communities of color have long felt the unjust, disproportionate impacts of air pollution leading to severe health outcomes. Phasing out diesel buses ensures cleaner air for students, bus drivers and school staff, and communities along school bus routes. From starting conversations with school leaders to co-hosting education events, health professionals played a key role alongside community advocates in helping school districts and decision makers understand the health impacts of this issue. Together, let's continue leading the charge for better health, one electric school bus at a time! 🚌
