Do you have a passion for protecting pets?    Our Field Services Department is searching for Humane Investigators and Dispatch Operators! Humane Investigators work diligently to educate the public on the humane treatment of animals, to protect animals from harm, and to enforce animal cruelty laws. Dispatch Operators play a crucial role in keeping pets safe by responding to general and emergency calls, creating lost and found reports, reuniting pets with owners, and recording complaint cases. These positions are on the front lines of keeping pets and people safe in our community.   If you would like to make a lifesaving difference, apply today at: https://lnkd.in/git-j73.

The Hawaiian Humane Society Pet Kōkua outreach team recently wrapped up an amazing event to promote pet health and safety at Keahumoa Place in ʻEwa Beach, providing free microchipping and vaccinations to 22 people and 40 pets. - 15 pets microchipped - 40 pets (31 dogs and 9 cats) vaccinated and were provided with flea/tick preventatives and nail trims - 37 custom engraved pet ID tags This event would not have been possible without the generous support of the Banfield Foundation who provided the critical grant funding needed for vaccines and flea/tick preventatives. We also want to share a big mahalo to the team at Keahumoa Place for hosting us, our incredible veterinary volunteers, including Dr. Loren Schmidt, DVM, Dr. Jerissa Ching, DVM, and the Windward Community College Veterinary Technology program students, and our animal-loving community for coming out to support this wellness clinic. With Banfield Foundation's support, our goal is to expand our reach into the community to make an even bigger impact. By ensuring pets are healthy, safe and easily identifiable, these clinics make a significant difference, fostering a community where pets and people can thrive together. #140YearsOfHawaiianHumane #PetKokua

Promoting the human-animal bond is ingrained in the mission of the Hawaiian Humane Society, but seeing other organizations share in the joyful ways pets enrich our lives (and vice versa) is truly special. A huge mahalo to ProService Hawaii for inviting us to be a part of their recent Bring Your Dog to Work Day celebration! We're incredibly grateful for their support and generosity in raising funds and donations to support our Pet Food Bank. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of Oʻahu's pets and their people. Thank you, ProService Hawaii, for your commitment to our cause! #140YearsofHawaiianHumane #HawaiianHumane

From neonate to now - little Huckleberry (orange tabby) and Jellybean (calico) have been flourishing in a loving foster home since they were five days old and two weeks old, respectively. Found abandoned separately by Good Samaritans, they required round-the-clock care to thrive, which is exactly what they've done over the past month (PRO TIP: check out our kitten flowchart at HawaiianHumane.org/kittens so you know what to do if you find kittens!). From seeing Huckleberry open his eyes to weaning and litter box training, they've hit every neonate foster milestone, and in a couple of weeks, will be ready for spay/neuter, then adoption. Kittens at this age are especially vulnerable, so having foster volunteers trained to raise newborn kittens - which we affectionately call our Itty Bitty Kitty Committee - plays a vital role in neonate kitten care, growth and socialization. Members of our Itty Bitty Kitty Committee note that the fulfillment of helping these tiny kittens grow is deeply rewarding, often becoming a bonding experience for the whole family. Hawaiian Humane provides all of the training, supplies and veterinary care needed for your foster pets - all we ask is for you to open your home and heart to them while they're with you. With kitten season upon us, we know we could not save orphaned kittens without our amazing foster volunteers. Interested in joining our Itty Bitty Kitty Committee? Swing by our Mōʻiliʻili Campus Classroom (2700 Waialae Avenue, Honolulu, HI 96826) on Saturday, May 11, 2024 from 11 am to 1 pm for our Foster Care Open House. This is a wonderful opportunity to chat with our Foster Care team and volunteers, as well as meet kittens seeking foster homes. You can even take a foster kitten (or litter) home that same day! In the past year, the Hawaiian Humane Society opened our doors to over 12,500 animals at our Mōʻiliʻili and Kosasa Family campuses. But our mission extends far beyond just providing sanctuary. We're deeply invested in serving both pets and their people. From nurturing responsible pet ownership and animal welfare in schools to offering affordable spay/neuter services and reuniting lost pets with their families to hosting our Pet Loss Support Group bi-weekly and coordinating Joy Ambassadors visits to schools, hospitals, health facilities, and so much more, our impact ripples across Oʻahu. None of that would be possible without our volunteers. Our team of over 1,000 dedicated volunteers - who collectively contributed more than 135,000 hours last year alone - are the heartbeat of our organization. As we celebrate National Volunteer Appreciation Week, let's extend a heartfelt round of ap-paws to these incredible individuals. Their unwavering dedication fuels our efforts every single day. It's #NationalAnimalControlOfficerAppreciationWeek, so join us in celebrating our Field Services Department, a top-notch team of dispatch officers, field service officers and humane investigators. Here at the Hawaiian Humane Society, our Field Services team goes beyond "animal control," an antiquated phrase that harkens back to the days of "dog catchers." They do compassionate outreach in the community where education and enforcement of animal welfare laws is our first line of defense against animal cruelty, abandonment and neglect. Whether they're responding out in the field, working alongside first responders and Good Samaritans, serving as a voice for the voiceless in the courtroom, or petitioning our legislators for stricter animal welfare laws, they work tirelessly every day to serve the entire island and make Oʻahu a safer place for animals and the people that love them. We couldn't do what we do without them, so if you see them out on the job, make sure to give them a big mahalo! Are you an animal lover who wants to serve our community? Join our Field Services team!
