The 2024 NASA SBIR Ignite program will award $150,000 for phase I recipients. Companies retain IP and work directly with NASA experts. Join us this Thursday to get familiar with two of the program's potential topic areas: radio-isotope power systems (RPS) and lunar surface payloads. #RPSsystems are increasingly being proposed for #lunarapplications. Using alternative isotopes lessens the demand for Plutonium, freeing up more material for the outer planet efforts. Additionally, the development of more efficient systems to convert heat to electrical power could decrease the amount of nuclear material of any type needed by individual missions. One focus of this ask-me-anything conversation will be how startups can help solve these power-system challenges; panelists will discuss the technological hurdles that need to be addressed and pose questions to consider when developing potential solutions for optimized systems. A second focus of the discussion will be on NASA's Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) project and their efforts to mature a commercial base capable of delivering payloads to the #Moon in a rapid and efficient fashion. CLPS teams are on the precipice of successfully delivering hundreds of kilograms of payloads to various locations on the Moon, including regions near the lunar South Pole. To foster a vibrant lunar economy, commercial payloads are needed to reduce NASA's position as an anchor tenant. Panelists will share thoughts on industry opportunities and the need for technologies that will address science and engineering goals on the lunar surface. This includes technologies for continuous lunar experiment operations, 24/7 experimentation capabilities, specialized instruments for lunar science research, and engineering experiments aimed at lunar activities such as excavation, construction, and resource utilization.
