Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital believes in the power of every G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader)™ to change the world. We offer every girl the opportunity to discover who she is, what she can do, and connect her with a powerful community of girls and mentors to make it happen. With unique programs Girl Scouts explore, learn, succeed and take action to make a difference in their community. With support from dedicated adult volunteers, parents and staff, we deliver the best Girl Scout experience to 86,810 members: 59,425 girls and 27,385 adults in the Greater Washington Region. Girl Scouts opens a world of opportunities for girls to learn new skills, discover the world, explore science, volunteer, go camping and more. As the largest girl-serving organization, our main focus is on leadership development for girls. Girl Scouting has helped girls develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed. From our earliest badges in electricity, aeronautics, and natural sciences to today’s cookie entrepreneurs and MAKERS, girls challenge themselves, work with inspiring role models, and develop lifelong friendships. We’re preparing the next generation of girls for their futures, ensuring doors are open to them, and that they possess the confidence to walk through those doors.

I was thrilled to join Camp Ashgrove day campers at our Camp Crowell location. I learned how to create a yarn wheel, climbed a rope wall, threw tomahawks, ate ice cream, and enjoyed being in space with young leaders and our committed volunteers. Last night at the Washington Business Journal Best Real Estate Deals Awards, we were honored with the Community Impact Award and the People’s Choice Award. This recognition was for our sale of over 500 acres of natural forest to the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission. Thank you to Fraser Forbes and GoulstonStorrs who partnered with us on this landmark deal, the largest single land acquisition by the parks agency for the purpose of conservation. This sale has planted the roots for our Outdoor Legacy Fund which will help generations of future Girl Scouts to connect with nature and learn about environmental stewardship.
