About us
Almost 50 years ago, a handful of determined activists leased a small fishing vessel, called the Phyllis Cormack, and set sail from Vancouver for Amchitka Island in Alaska. Their mission was to protest U.S. nuclear testing off the coast of Alaska with a brave act of defiance: to place themselves in harm’s way. These daring activists sailed into history by bringing worldwide attention to the dangers of nuclear testing even after they were intercepted by the U.S. Coast Guard during their mission. Since then, Greenpeace has indeed changed the world by continuing to make it a better place for all. Together, activists and supporters have gathered to fight to ban commercial whaling, defend the Amazon Reef in Brazil, convince the world’s leaders to stop nuclear testing, protect Antarctica, and so much more. Today, we have grown from a small group of dedicated activists to an international organization with offices in more than 50 countries,12 Frontline offices in cities throughout the U.S. and 2 primary U.S. offices within Washington, D.C. and San Francisco. Greenpeace USA is currently working on campaigns to save the arctic, fight climate change, defend democracy, protect our forests and our oceans and promote sustainable food. Greenpeace is actively working to address these and other threats.

📢 BREAKING: We've just released our third annual Embedding Justice report. This report reflects on our journey and delves into the who, why, what, where, and how of Embedding Justice at Greenpeace US. Click here to view the full report👇 https://lnkd.in/eQ2A6p4z
Working at Greenpeace USA has challenged me to grow my understanding of the intersections of racial and environmental justice. The legacy of settler colonialism has resulted in a world economy that relies on marginalizing World Majority People and the destructive extractive forces that lead to environmental degradation. In the 2024 edition of our annual Embedding Justice report, we reflect on our journey and share the who, why, what, where, and how of Embedding Justice at Greenpeace. Of note is that we are deeply committed to the power of people and our collective efforts to build a vibrant planet for all. I look forward to highlighting the insights we gathered and reflecting on our journey over the coming weeks. https://lnkd.in/ePcebfMr #EnvironmentalJustice is #RacialJustice

Your most toxic & scary neighbor might not be who you think it is… 👀 Too many #California neighborhoods are littered with oil wells. Whether they’re actively pumping oil or long since run dry - all wells can leak #toxic emissions, even when operating by the book. Profit-hungry fossil fuel companies don’t care about the mess they make or the people and communities that suffer. Spending time near oil & gas drilling has been linked to a host of harmful health impacts including asthma, respiratory diseases, preterm births, and even cancer. More than 2 MILLION Californians live within a half mile of an oil well. Find out if you or your loved ones live, work, or play near an active or idle well by visiting 👉 bit.ly/oil-drilling-map Tell us what you find in the comments and share this video to spread the word! #california #todayilearned #psa #NoDrillingWhereWereLiving

BREAKING: Our new report reveals how Big Finance is funding Bitcoin’s country-sized carbon nightmare. We've developed some of the first independent estimates of the largest Bitcoin mining companies' carbon emissions and exposed their financiers. Bitcoin mining operations have relied on secrecy and greenwashing to avoid responsibility for their massive carbon emissions, and neither financial companies nor Bitcoin mining companies are adequately disclosing carbon emissions. Oceans solutions are climate solutions! #CapitolHillOceansWeek #WorldOceanDay
It was a privilege to speak at #CapitolHillOceansWeek, focusing on Climate Leadership. Oceans Solutions are Climate Solutions! But we face more than a question of science; we face a question of leadership. Centering those most affected by the climate crisis today is as important as protecting the oceans to achieve our goals. Thank you to the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation and Kerttula Beth and my fellow climate leaders for an amazing panel. 🌍 #ClimateLeadership #OceansWeek #ClimateSolutionsareOceansSolutions #EnvironmentalJustice #RacialJustice #Greenpeace #ClimateEmergency

Thank you, Microsoft employees! Since 2018, Microsoft employees have organized into one of the largest and most influential employee sustainability communities in the world, with 10,000 members and 40 global chapters. For years, employees worked internally to push for limits on the company’s work with the fossil fuel industry. For the first time, they’re telling their stories from the inside.
Microsoft employees spent years fighting the tech giant's oil ties. Now, they’re speaking out.
