Beautiful tribute to Elisabeth Linder who passed away in June. Elisabeth was truly an inspiration - always working to help others, standing up for what she believed in, and doing it with deep humility. After her son was killed by US-backed rebels in Nicaragua, Elisabeth and her family supported a number of initiatives to make a positive impact in his honor. One of these initiatives was the Ben Linder Memorial Fund which eventually evolved into Green Empowerment. Elisabeth continued to support Green Empowerment throughout her lifetime. We are so grateful to her for sharing her story, her wisdom, and her support. https://lnkd.in/gJn4MDe5

It's inspiring to see the tangible impact of our partnership with EKOenergy ecolabel and The Victim Relief Alliance. 🍯🐝 We are deeply grateful to EKOenergy ecolabel for their generous support in making this project a reality. The solar-powered honey processing plant in the Terego district of Uganda has not only eased the labor-intensive process of honey production but has also empowered both refugee and host community members by fostering cooperation and opening new economic opportunities.
☀ Progress update from EKOenergy's Climate Fund Projects! ☀ The newest publication in our Climate Stories series gives an overview of some of the outcomes of a project we funded in Uganda 12 months ago. We granted €26,585 to the NGO Green Empowerment and their local partner, The Victim Relief Alliance, to support the construction of a solar-powered honey processing plant in the Terego district in northern Uganda. The farmers in this region, who are a mix of refugees and local community members, rely heavily on agricultural production as their primary livelihood. Beekeeping forms a significant income source for smallholder farmers, but without access to electricity, processing the honey is very time-consuming and physically demanding. The new honey processing unit, powered by a 10.45 kW solar system, has made many of the tasks easier and improved the quality of honey products. 🍯 The farmers have established a legally registered cooperative consisting of 108 members from both refugee and host communities. This cooperative has improved coordination, facilitated the exchange of ideas and resources, and bolstered their negotiating power in marketing their products. With access to a reliable power source, the cooperative can also explore additional revenue sources, such as phone charging or selling cold soft drinks. Do you want to support impactful renewable energy projects like these? Through our Climate Fund, all EKOenergy users contribute at least €0.10 per megawatt-hour to carefully selected high-impact projects in low- and middle-income countries. Feel free to contact us to learn more.
