“I get to be a part of helping my home, helping my neighbors, and truly, helping my family,” says Matthew Enfinger, our Neighbor Advocate. Matthew, a proud Georgia native, plays a key role in fostering partnerships across our network of over 350 agencies. Matthew says that Golden Harvest has always had a presence in his life, and for nearly three years, he has been working to serve the community that raised him. Matthew is dedicated to finding ways to feed underserved demographics, including our local college students. Together with colleges across a 25-county area, Matthew and the Community Impact team are working to tackle food insecurity on college campuses. So far, The College Food Insecurity Initiative has partnered with East Georgia State College and Augusta Technical College to establish food pantries on campus. According to Matthew, these spaces aren't just for providing meals, they are about building community and support for students. Outside of his work as our Neighbor Advocate, Matthew is a passionate gardener, and can often be found volunteering at The Master’s Table. We’re proud to have Matthew on our team! #everymealmatters #neighboradvocate #feedingneighbors

A group of young volunteers from Trinity on the Hill's Vacation Bible School showed us the true meaning of community yesterday at our Augusta Campus Volunteer Center. They packed boxes full of nutritious food for families who are struggling to make ends meet. It's hard to believe, but 1 in 4 children in our area are affected by hunger. These VBS volunteers demonstrated that no one is too young to help others. Their dedication is a call to action for all of us. Can we count on your support? Whether through donations, volunteering, or spreading the word, every action helps. Together, we can fight hunger, one meal at a time. #KidsHelpingKids #EndChildHunger #FightHunger #EveryMealMatters

As guests arrived by car outside of Greater Mt. Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, volunteers passed fresh produce, milk, and more to pack into backseats and trunks. The food pantry, open every 2nd Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and every 4th Thursday from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., has served a growing number of neighbors alongside the rising cost of groceries. Food pantry coordinator Rosa Thomas said the effort is made possible by the church's dedicated volunteers. "I have the best volunteers!" she said. With 1 in 7 people in our service area facing hunger, partners like Greater Mount Canaan Baptist Church are crucial for the children, seniors, and families we serve. "The food pantry has really benefited the community a lot," she said. "The people are so appreciative." #EveryMealMatters #endhunger #AugustaGA

Our #BofAStudentLeaders summer interns joined Community Impact Coordinator Jonathan Baker in a visit to the food pantry and clothing closet at Sweetwater Baptist Church this week! Key’Nesha Powell and Jayda Bell, incoming first-year students at Claflin University and Emory University respectively, have been working with multiple departments at Golden Harvest to learn about our Food Bank and engage with our community. We are so thankful to be part of this Bank of America program that prepares community-minded students for success in the workforce and beyond! #EveryMealMatters #BankOfAmerica

The Golden Harvest Urban Farm will grow fresh plums for our neighbors in need, thanks to two students at Lakeside High School! Brooke Sheehan and Connor Austin donated two trees and additional funds to the Urban Farm as part of their International Baccalaureate CAS project. "We have a bunch of plum trees in our yard, and so, we harvested a bunch of them, and then made them into homemade plum jam, and then, we sold them in our neighborhood and had enough money to buy these trees," said Brooke. The two students were thrilled to deliver the trees that will help feed the children, seniors, and neighbors who visit The Master's Table soup kitchen. "It's a really amazing feeling, especially that we were able to take our CAS project ... and make something really good out of it," said Connor. Great work, Brooke and Connor! #EveryMealMatters #endhunger

This summer, let's ensure no child in Georgia goes hungry. Find a Summer Feeding Site near you by visiting https://lnkd.in/gmZiBMUc - any child can simply show up and be provided a meal. You can also text "Summer Meals" to 97779 or call 1.866.348.6479 to locate a meal site. 1.1 million children in Georgia rely on free or reduced-price lunch during the school year, and sadly, only 15% have access to those essential meals during summer. These meal sites are a necessary resource for many families. Spread the word and promote your local food bank, which you can find at https://lnkd.in/egMY-NvZ By supporting your regional Feeding Georgia food bank, you're directly helping families in need year-round. Baskets full of bell peppers and beans will add fresh summer flavor to our meals at The Master's Table soup kitchen, thanks to our Sprout Scouts! The Sprout Scouts, a weekly summer program at our Urban Farm, invites kids ages 6-14 and their families to become urban farmers for a day while helping us grow food for the soup kitchen. Spots for the program have filled up fast, but volunteers of all ages are welcome year-round at the Golden Harvest Urban Farm!
