The Global CMO Growth Council convened at Cannes for the seventh year, gathering CMOs to prioritize initiatives for the remainder of 2024. Key priorities include integrating generative AI, solving measurement challenges, applying creative effectiveness standards, building a talent pipeline, evolving a universal competency framework, promoting inclusive and sustainable marketing, and elevating B2B marketing. These initiatives will guide action plans for 2025, to be activated at the ANA Masters of Marketing Conference in October. CMOs are called to contribute to these efforts. The Drum's Gordon Young gathered the Grosth Council’s Nick Primola, Carmen True of Qualcomm and Luiz Felipe Barros of Channel Factory to discuss how chief marketers accelerate business growth by exercising greater influence in the C-suite The Drum reports that just 20% of marketers believe the CMO is viewed as being equally influential as other C-suite executives, while 58% of marketers do not see their primary role as developing and executing marketing strategies or aligning marketing goals with overall business objectives. And, a staggering 73% of marketers struggle to demonstrate a clear return-on-investment (ROI) from marketing activities. All of these perceptions are within our power, as a collective marketing community, to change.
