While a small portion of the total dollars raised supported “International, Foreign Affairs,” this cause category saw the largest year-over-year (YOY) increase at 9.6%. This boost is likely attributed to recent and robust relief campaigns caused by international conflicts.
This positive news offers a glimmer of hope for a more resilient and radically generous environment in the future.

Delighted to share our third annual giving review, the 2023 Lookback! There is continued worrisome news in terms of everyday participation in supporting nonprofits, but there is good news too: Amidst global worries about increasing polarization and diminishing social cohesion, we see evidence of people’s willingness to give across boundaries of ideology, lifestyle, and community. Most people remain open and ready to help those most in need. We think that one reason for the decline in giving to charities and nonprofits is that the social sector as a whole is not inviting enough different kinds of people into its support ecosystem, whether as donors, volunteers, or advocates. Too many people are just never asked/ offered/ invited! The giving ecosystem is as robust as ever, generosity as a value is as deeply and widely held as ever, and it appears increasingly clear that it is us--nonprofits--who must adapt and redesign our relationship with givers to overcome the steady declines in donors and dollars. This is good news because it is all upside potential. Let's embrace the things that are working--collective giving, community giving, giving moments--and tap into generosity's abundant spirit more successfully.
