It was a pleasure to have a day working with the FCDO team at PwC last week on their L&D team day, with the glorious backdrop of London’s skyline. The team was really engaged and committed to creating a healthy culture in their groups. We worked through the 5 Voices to enhance self awareness, the 5 Gears to help them be present and productive when there is never enough time, and covered some key tools to help them enhance team performance. INTRODUCING THE PUSH/PULL TOOL This tool gives us a powerful framework for coaching others and offers a practical way to reflect and improve upon our own leadership. It uses specific behaviours to help us define a culture worth being part of - one that is open, honest and collaborative. PUSH BEHAVIOURS 🔹 Actively giving your views and opinions 🔹 Stating exactly what you want and need 🔹 Uses incentives and pressure to get the job done. Using these you ‘tell’ others what is needed and can bring healthy challenge. PULL BEHAVIOURS 🔸 Encourage them to ‘ask’, give ideas and truly listen to these 🔸 Draw out the best from others 🔸 Identifying and building on common ground Both are necessary for a healthy, high-performing team and a strong coaching culture. This balance is especially true as your rise towards the executive level leadership positions where success is less about the tasks you complete personally and more about how well you develop, support, challenge, and equip those around you.. No one is perfect! Naturally we tend to default to one side or the other, but this is not something we can ignore or outsource.
