We are thrilled to share that we have just wrapped up a successful Face-to-Face Meeting at #Bayer Headquarters in Leverkusen! Our discussions were enriched by the participation of distinguished colleagues from NVIDIA, Google, SKY ENGINE AI, Flywheel, Gesund.ai and Sequoia Growth GmbH. During this meeting, we openly discussed our progress in developing Foundational Models for Medical Imaging. We explored the exciting potential of leveraging Generative AI (#GenAI) to create Synthetic Medical Imaging across various organs—heart, chest, liver, etc.—and imaging modalities such as CT, MRI, and X-ray. Our goal is to replicate the complexity of the human body synthetically. The human body is an intricate puzzle, and no single entity can solve this challenge alone. Collaboration, hard work, and consistency are essential to achieve our vision of 𝑰𝒎𝒂𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑨𝒍𝒍, 𝑳𝒊𝒎𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑵𝒐𝒏𝒆. The #artificialIntelligence (AI) legal and regulatory landscape is rapidly evolving, as federal and state policy makers work to determine how to appropriately regulate #AI, balancing its risks with the tremendous opportunity it brings. Manatt Health’s Jared Augenstein, Randi Seigel and Annie Fox have launched an AI Policy Tracker to identify key federal and state AI policy activity most relevant to the health care industry, which will be regularly updated to provide guidance amid this shifting landscape. It’s been a couple of weeks since the CB Insights AI 100 announcement - which analyzed some 10K+ promising AI startups - and I got the chance to study the list and stats a little bit. The median company, as ranked by CB’s proprietary Mosaic score accounting for customer interviews, market trends, IP, team strength, etc. raised $30M in funding and had a valuation of $300M. Team Gesund.ai takes immense pride that we are the 2nd least funded company on the list which included OpenAI, Anthropic, Databricks among other industry titans, though we ranked right next to the median per the Mosaic score. Talk about punching above one’s weight class! As much as I’d like to continue tooting my own horn throughout the post, a few macro trends stood out to me having looked at the previous years’ lists: 1. Several categories disappeared: no #annotation players (previously included Scale AI, Snorkel AI), no #federated/ #privacy-preserving ML / #syntheticdata players (previously included Gretel.ai, Apheris, Owkin). Granted these are relatively mature fields with a whole slew of mainly horizontal players. This raises the question: Are these now deemed by the market as narrow solutions expected to be tucked into the larger AI dev stack? 2. Looking at the healthcare AI category, 2024 has primarily #drugdiscovery companies like Isomorphic Labs, Bioptimus, Iambic Therapeutics, Genesis Therapeutics, CHARM Therapeutics, Open Evidence, plus Gesund.ai as the vertical AI/evidence stack in healthcare, in contrast to the previous years which were more diverse including AI-enabled #SaMD companies like Subtle Medical, digital twin companies like Unlearn.AI as well as therapeutics co’s like Recursion, insitro. #Pharma/ #biotech are new entrants into AI relative to their #diagnostics counterparts which may now be recognized by the industry. Given all the love the #GenAI space is getting at large, I had expected healthcare-focused GenAI groups, like Hippocratic AI, Nabla and Abridge to be listed. That said, the healthcare industry may be looking to see more evidence driven by regulation/validation first which might have been the culprit here.
