On July 15, 2024, a new holdout control point named “CP Hunter” was placed into service on our New England Central Railroad. The location was named in honor of G&W AVP Government Affairs Charles Hunter, in recognition of the significant grant funding he has helped secure for the NECR, resulting in a complete reconstruction of the NECR mainline across four states. The projects have included federal and state funding from one ARRA grant, two TIGER grants, one BUILD grant, and one CRISI grant totaling over $133M. The new control point was added as part of a complete upgrade to the Centralized Traffic Control signal system on the NECR. Amtrak is funding numerous safety related improvements to the NECR as part of a congressional set-aside to improve safety of passenger train operations on lines without positive train control. When the project is complete, the obsolete signal system will be fully upgraded with new ElectrologIXS controls and LED wayside signals. In addition to the new control point, the signal system is also being improved with additional intermediate signals and additional signal indications to improve operations. Mr. Hunter began his railroad career in train and engine service 1981 with the Cadillac and Lake City Railway, now part of KYLE Railroad. He later worked for York Railway and St. Lawrence and Atlantic Railroad under Emons Transportation, followed by Rail America and GWI, for a total of 38 years with GWI-Affiliated companies. Prior to his current role, he was General Manager of New England Central Railroad from 2004-2008. We're happy that our team was able to assist in making this new, accessible platform and station a reality in #Brattleboro, #Vermont! Our New England Central Railroad (NECR) engineering team worked with Amtrak, the Town of Brattleboro, and Vermont Agency of Transportation to rebuild a passing siding and install a new switch so that Vermonter trains can pull off the main track and into the siding to access the new level boarding platform. Once the station work is completed, the Vermonter will pull out of the siding and back onto the main track to continue its trip. https://lnkd.in/drFfXZkj
