Calling all Wisconsin HS seniors and their families - check your high school email next week! You may have early admission to an excellent campus in the Universities of Wisconsin. https://lnkd.in/ghaFqTHP
Our mission is to provide guidance and support to students who have strong academic potential but fewer resources to explore college options through a comprehensive process. Our program helps students and their families to confidently navigate the college preparation and admissions process and is provided at no cost to our scholars who begin work with us before their junior year of high school. Galin Scholars provides test preparation, college advising, and academic tutoring. We also support students in accessing extracurricular opportunities in academics, arts, and athletics to help them develop their talents and interests.

Last week with Galin Scholars, Zach Galin and I, presented a college admissions case study at a Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County AVID/TOPS education staff training. These staff do great work to support Dane County high school students in preparing for college and careers! It was a good discussion as our "admissions" groups worked through how to weigh the different factors that go into reviewing college applications. Thanks Taylor Jackson, Renae Sigall M.S. and Blair Ellifson.

Last Monday, the ACT – a model of consistency for decades – announced substantial changes to the exam. This post will break down what we know about these changes so far and the questions we have at this early stage. "For individuals like Lund, who are tied to a place due to other obligations, the elimination of branch campuses may put higher education out of reach altogether. But on a larger scale, the closures risk exacerbating a growing gap in educational achievement between urban and rural residents." https://lnkd.in/gYWnPSrt
This year, for many, the process of applying to college has been challenging. For students and families still trying to figure it out, including FAFSA and financial aid options, there is still time and help available! "To give students and families more time to receive and consider financial aid offers, 63% of public four-year colleges have extended their decision deadlines, according to NASFAA. Typical May 1 deadlines may now be as late as mid-June, July or even August." https://lnkd.in/gVVkDtDN
Even if you've heard about the delays and frustrations with new FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) rollout this year, you may not know how that translates into numbers. In Wisconsin, compared to last year, over 6,500 fewer students have submitted a FAFSA. That is thousands of students and families who will not know how much financial aid they could receive to attend college next year. There is still time and here is one resource to help.
