MISSION & HISTORY The Florida Immigrant Coalition (FLIC) is a statewide coalition of more than 30 member organizations and over 100 allies, founded in 1998 and formally incorporated in 2004 .We are led by our membership – grassroots and community organizations, farmworkers, youth, advocates, lawyers, unions and others. More than an organization, FLIC has become a hub for a bold, agile and strategic multi-racial, intergenerational social movement. We work together for the fair treatment of all people, including immigrants. With staff in five counties, and members throughout Florida, FLIC’s leadership builds depth in local communities, breadth for statewide reach and national alignment. OUR MISSION To amplify the power of immigrant communities to impact the root causes of inequality, defending and protecting basic human rights, including the right to live without fear. OUR VISION To usher in a new dawn, moving Florida in a more progressive direction, by becoming an organization rooted in the history of struggles, incorporating leadership of new immigrant generations and promotion of culture, so immigrants and other oppressed peoples can fully participate in a democracy where we can freely create, study, work, play, and love.

Yesterday was FLIC’s 6th annual Refugee Day at the Capitol 🏛️ and it’s been my favorite one yet 💕. Aside from leading the press conference 🎤, I was assigned to lead a lobby group of amazing, strong women who are Haitian refugees 🇭🇹. They told their stories with such courage; and while this was the first time at the Capitol for all of them, they were not afraid to speak truth to power. 💪🏼

Me gusta mucho mi faceta de portavoz pero como directora de comunicaciones, siempre intento darle la oportunidad a otros para ser entrevistados por los medios. Aquí una entrevista reciente con Univisión.

The work started in Geneva. Alianza Americas and its member organizations, Florida Immigrant Coalition (FLIC) and COPAL MN, were active participants in the Civil Society Preparatory Meeting, the official space for civil society delegates attending the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) to collectively discuss, engage, and prepare together for our participation into the Summit. The meeting is a descendent of the Civil Society Days, a series of meetings bringing together civil society from across the world to collectivise inputs that help shape the global debate on migration and development. After the preparatory meeting, we organized the Grassroots Forum on Migration Governance in partnership with the Migrant Forum in Asia, where we facilitated a space for dialogue on critical issues facing migrants, migrant families, and civil society. We are fostering spaces to share and discuss the challenges that we face, our successes and challenges. Critical elements of the discussion during that first day include narratives around migration, climate and migration, labor migration, rights protection, and multi-level governance. The shrinking spaces for civil society was a major concern shared by many. For the following days, we hope to have a deeper and more accurate reflection of both the diversity and the multiple concerns migrants have to address in the day-to-day realities we face across the regions and around the world. #GFMD2024 #GFMD14

It provides a flexible, multi-stakeholder space where governments can discuss the multi-dimensional aspects to migration, development, and the link between these two areas. Alianza Americas' delegation will be part of side events, including as a panelist in the climate round table, and is also co-organizing the Grassroots Forum on Global Governance. Alianza Americas will also hold bilateral meetings with State Delegations and look forward to opportunities to connect and discuss with Mayors and the private sector initiatives to advance migration governance.
