As Pride Month wraps up, we wanted to share the words of one of our 2023 Justice Fellows, Jennifer Morton. “As someone who is proud to be a part of immigrant communities (🇭🇳) as well as the LGBTQIA+ community, I feel so grateful to get to serve these communities through my fellowship with IJC and placement at Ayuda. Many people think of these communities as separate, with differing interests and causes. However, we cannot be effective advocates if we don’t understand the varied experiences and backgrounds our clients have. Remembering this is how we can do things like identify forms of relief, such as asylum claims related to someone being persecuted for their identity. It is also how we show all of our clients that we see them as whole humans with rich lives that go far beyond their immigration status. For these reasons and many more, I wish you all a very happy pride month! 🏳️🌈” #IJCFellows #pridemonth

It's a beautiful #ThankfulThursday to recognize the generous pro bono service from Arnold & Porter , whose team recently hosted Ayuda attorneys for a special clinic helping recently arrived immigrants seek Employment Authorization Documents (EADs). We're so grateful to A&P attorneys for volunteering their time, and for graciously covering the work permit filing fees for several of our immigrant clients. We're excited share that Ayuda has new *fashionably late* #Pride logos, now incorporating colors from the transgender flag as well as the intersex flag ❤️💛💚💙💜🖤 Huge S/O to local designer Salem Rosaline (any pronouns 💜), who lovingly created these designs. Support their work here: https://lnkd.in/eH5E6y8p To us, these Pride logos symbolize a commitment - our commitment to LGBTQIA immigrants. We endeavor to uphold their legal rights through affirming and supportive services, helping immigrants fight discrimination within the contexts of immigration and family law. Our social services team works to connect LGTBQIA clients with supportive housing options, health services, and a community that will welcome them. Our language access team ensures that language barriers never stand in the way of LGBTQIA immigrants and survivors getting the excellent services they deserve from DC nonprofits. At Ayuda, no matter how you identify, you have a home.

Today’s announcement will protect so many families who are currently forced to choose between seeking lawful immigration status and being with their loved ones. For more than 50 years, Ayuda attorneys have been helping family members apply for immigration relief, adjust their status, and access pathways to citizenship. Every piece of compassionate immigration reform, like Parole in Place, gives our immigrant clients a better chance of accessing justice. Read our full statement here - https://zurl.co/cEs7
