“It’s absolutely a recognition that rural hospitals often are playing a broader role in the community beyond the traditional walls of the hospital,” Mary Mayhew, Florida Hospital Association CEO, said in an interview with WCTV alongside Weems Memorial Hospital CEO David Walker. Florida's rural hospitals face unique challenges but remain dedicated to preserving access to care for the communities they serve. Senate Bill 644, signed into law by Governor DeSantis, supports a special designation that allows these rural hospitals to continue providing life-saving care over the long run.
