Happy One Year Anniversary of Florence Copper Day in the Town of Florence! On June 30th of last year, Florence Copper Manager of Communications and Public Affairs Sophie Dessart was honored to serve as Mayor for the Day in the Town of Florence. Sophie won the chance to be mayor in a charity auction supporting Paladin Sports Outreach, a non-profit established to use sports and recreation activities to teach important life lessons to youth in Pinal County. During her day as mayor, Sophie toured Town facilities and issued a proclamation with Mayor Walter reminding us of the role of copper in our everyday lives. Congratulations to McKenzie Butler, winner of a 2024 Florence Copper Creating Opportunities Scholarship! A graduate of San Tan Foothills High School, McKenzie will attend the University of Arizona to study medicine. She shared how she will give back to the community with her degree, saying, "I hope to become a Physician Assistant. Once I’m there, and stable in my career, I would like to give back to the community with any opportunity I may have. I think it would be wonderful to start my own scholarship someday to help pay it forward for future students." Since our scholarship program was established in 2011, Florence Copper has awarded more than $91,000 in scholarships to talented students in Florence and surrounding communities to help them pursue higher education.
