The White House Acting Principal Deputy National Cyber Director, Jake Braun, visited the Verizon Community Forward Clark-Fulton Learning Center yesterday to discuss a variety of topics surrounding cyber security jobs in the United States. There are roughly 700,000 job vacancies in the cybersecurity industry and the White House's Cyber Security office is interested in learning more about how organizations like JumpStart Inc. engage with local communities. Feowyn MacKinnon spoke about how she and her team at Jumpstart, in collaboration with the Cleveland Public Library, help people with access to tools and services to further their small businesses, secure careers and take advantage of tech-focused opportunities. Brittany Chambers, EdD spoke about how Verizon partners with nonprofits to help close the digital divide in under-resourced communities across the country through initiatives such as Verizon Community Forward and Verizon Innovative Learning. These initiatives help folks who are often left out of traditional pipelines get access to technology and education, and achieve success in tech careers. #VerizonCommunityForward #STEM

Last Wednesday marked a significant step forward in bridging the digital divide. We were excited to attend the Verizon Community Forward Jade District Learning Center open house, created through a partnership between Verizon and Hacienda Community Development Corp. (CDC). This learning center, located on Portland Community College’s Southeast campus, will provide access to technology and digital resources to help support local Portlanders with STEM education and digital literacy opportunities. As a collaborator on the Verizon Community Forward initiative since its inception, seeing all nine of the pilot centers come online has been very rewarding. In our vision for the design concept of the Learning Center spaces, we created flexible learning environments that could scale and adjust not only to different built environments, but also to meet the needs of community members with various different ages and abilities. We infused the design with warmth and color, filling the learning centers with a multitude of tools for community members to explore, learn and create. We are grateful to be a part of their learning journeys. #VerizonCommunityForward #CitizenVerizon #STEM #STEMeducation iUrban Teen, Rudy Reyes, Alex Leupp, Rex Knowles, Dr. Adrien Bennings, Matthew Meron, Brittany Chambers, EdD, Alex Servello, Heart of America, Adamu (Adam) Cho, Andrea Lee

We always enjoy supporting students in their creativity and design processes. Karol's senior class was exceptional and we look forward to seeing you all again at the Pratt Show!
Thrilled to be back as a guest critic for Karol Murlak's Sensory Design Capstone Studio at Pratt's Industrial Design Department. The studio course focuses on creating multi-faceted sensory experiences beyond the visual aesthetics of a product. Students are encouraged to explore unconventional materials, substances, and technologies that speak to both the body and mind in an effort to foster deeper connections. It's a pleasure to see how far students can take a project in a semester. Often starting with an idea based off of their personal experiences, the best narratives talked about how their design pivoted after receiving feedback from early stage prototypes. The attention paid to sensory feedback beyond the visual resonated (sometimes literally) and created a memorable day of presentations. Congratulations to all of the graduating seniors!

Going back in the archives to when our Pittsburgh centers came online for the Verizon Community Forward projects. We're excited to continue this work and get more centers open in other communities! #stemeducation #digitaldivide #stem #educationdesign
Excited to celebrate the launch of our second Verizon Community Forward learning center in Pittsburgh 🎉 The Verizon Community Forward Homewood-Brushton Adult Learning Center is a brand new, state-of-the-art digital learning center located within the Homewood-Brushton branch of the Community College of Allegheny County. The center created in partnership with Neighborhood Allies seeks to level the playing field with comprehensive programming to create equitable access for all Pittsburghers to technological and digital learning opportunities. I'm excited for the students and families that by way of this space will be able to explore new learning pathways that can lead to new career possibilities or trainings that may transform their entrepreneurial possibilities, all because of the programs the community's amazing partners cultivate in these spaces. Huge thank you to all teams that made this possible: Verizon, Heart of America, Jobs for the Future (JFF), Neighborhood Allies, Community College of Allegheny County, Massaro Construction Group, Local Artist Sasha Igwe, and more. Pictured: Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, Dr. Evon W. Walters, Dr. Quintin Bullock, Mario Acosta-Velez, Presley Gillespie, Stephanie Chernay, Itha Cao MID, PMP, Karen Lue, and more. Cheers to your endless contributions to the Pittsburgh community. A great #wpxi segment: https://lnkd.in/gd4T3pZ6 #Verizon #CitizenVerizon #VerizonCommunityForward #tech #education #access
