"Allyship is not passive nor is it selective." - Seán Leighton, Global VP of Food Safety and Regulatory Affairs at Cargill At IFT First, Females in Food and the IFT Women's Resource Group united for the first time to deliver a powerful hour of conversation and networking. The event focused on fostering inclusive relationships across genders, aiming to build strong alliances, challenge stereotypes, promote equity, and cultivate a culture where everyone can thrive. We began with an insightful panel discussion and followed it up with a networking session, ensuring attendees left with actionable strategies and valuable new connections. Here are just a few of the insights shared by the panel members: 1. Allyship requires daily courage to stand up in the moment. It's about consistently using your position to support marginalized groups whenever opportunities arise. 2. Building relationships is not a prerequisite for allyship, but it helps. One of the most effective ways to forge new connections with internal leaders is to reach out, acknowledge something you admire about their work, and ask for them to share their insights. 3. Breaking down hierarchies and titles can create more inclusive workplaces. By removing these barriers, we encourage all voices to be heard and valued, fostering a culture of equity and openness. 4. Starting meetings with a shared mission promotes inclusivity. Aligning on a common purpose at the beginning of meetings helps create a more inclusive space with a high sense of purpose. This event was a great first step in uniting our communities around a key industry hurdle and moving the conversation forward to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all. #InclusiveLeadership #GenderEquity #Allyship #FemalesInFood #IFTFirst Angela Dodd, MBA, MS, Emefa Monu, Seán Leighton, Amy Wei-Mei Chen Wang, Jeff Grogg

At the SNAC International Women in Snacks (WinS) in-person event, Claire Shipman, author of “The Confidence Code” and “Womenomics,” shared research showing the differences in men and women’s approaches to work and data-backed ways individuals and companies can overcome and even thrive based on those differences. Here are three key takeaways: 1️⃣ Diverse Teams Thrive: Companies with diverse leadership outperform in every metric. "Varied groups of decision-makers make better decisions," Shipman said. 2️⃣ Confidence & Action: Women are often socialized away from risk-taking. Shipman advised, "Practice risk-taking every day, and embrace failure as a positive." 3️⃣ Redefining Power: Women prefer "power to" (collaborative) over "power over" (dominance). This new mindset is essential for genuine inclusion. “Women make a difference simply by showing up every day as themselves,” Shipman emphasized. Let's embrace diversity and take action for a more inclusive future! 🌟 *article reference in comments #WomenInLeadership #DiversityAndInclusion #Leadership #WomenEmpowerment #Confidence #Collaboration
