The mission of the Federal Defenders of Western North Carolina, Inc. is to provide high quality representation to indigent defendants. In achieving this mission, this program will endeavor to: (1) provide the highest quality of legal representation; (2) advance the effectiveness of the legal system through excellence in legal scholarship and through ongoing education and training of the criminal defense bar and the community; (3) foster and promote high standards and ideals engendered by the Bill of Rights and the Criminal Justice Act; and (4) see that justice is administered on a fair and equal basis.

We are expanding and hiring a mitigation specialist to support our Charlotte Trial Unit and an investigator/mitigation specialist to support our Capital Habeas Unit. Prior criminal defense experience, preferably federal, is required. Our ideal candidates will have sufficient experience to handle felony trials and a full case load upon hiring. We were very pleased to host Major General Dave Bligh, Colonel Joe Lore and Col Valerie Danyluk at the Federal Public Defender’s Office in Western North Carolina. Besides visiting our office, Major General Bligh met with LtCol Al Diaz (Ret) - the Chief Judge of the 4th Circuit and was given a tour of the Federal Courthouse by US Magistrate Judge Keesler.
