High schools, originally designed in the 20th century, are now outdated for 21st-century needs. Students from 13 middle and high schools in six states traveled to Washington, D.C., for the inaugural National Redesign Showcase to present ideas for updating schools. Robert Balfanz, director of the Everyone Graduates Center, Johns Hopkins University and a professor at the Center for the Social Organization of Schools, discussed the ideas presented at the Showcase. “The broader goal is to create supports, policy, and eventually funding for this sort of redesign work. Schools need to be redesigned, and it’s best if that’s done from the ground up,” he said. Learn more in the recent Q&A: https://bit.ly/4aXTAJo
