Mt. Pleasant High School students were visited by Samsung Semiconductor Inc. earlier this year, made possible in part through a partnership with the Silicon Valley Education Foundation (SVEF) and the Eastside Education Initiative. Samsung Semiconductor Inc. (SSI) is the semiconductor division of Samsung Electronics, one of the world's largest technology companies. The company plays a crucial role in the global semiconductor industry, supplying components to a wide range of electronic devices, including smartphones, tablets, computers, televisions, and other consumer electronics. At the event, students had the opportunity to hear from a range of employees at SSI to understand the career possibilities and network with professionals from different departments, including engineering, marketing, and HR, at the Mentorship Fair. The event had two parts: 1) a career panel developed specifically for all 9th-grade students and a 2) a mentorship fair open to 9th to 12th-grade students. Ria Tyagi, a student at Mt. Pleasant High School learned from the experience sharing, “I learned that every experience and every career pathway is so different. We can see some people started off and knew where they wanted to go vs. some had some different pathways to where they are today. And I think that was very powerful for our audience to hear. To just know that there is not just one way to succeed.” Many thanks for the great opportunity for our community partners in supporting student's growth and success. https://lnkd.in/gz9RkcdQ

The Spartan East Side Promise program offers guaranteed admission to SJSU for qualified students from San José’s East Side Union High School District, and last night welcomed soon-to-be-graduating seniors to what will hopefully be their home for the next four years. I enjoyed getting to meet many of these students and their families, and am excited to see what they will accomplish as Spartans. Students across the districts were asked to reflect and respond to an excerpt from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s speech “The Other America.” Abigail Soriano, ESUHSD’s English Subject Area Coordinator led the organizing of the districtwide event. She also worked closely with ESUHSD teachers to increase student participation and shared, “Every year, the students across our district submit work that showcases their talents in writing and the arts. Newly Completed Project! Yerba Buena High School’s new baseball and softball facilities are finished and ready for use! Located in San Jose, California, the Lloyd team transformed a natural grass field that was unsuitable for play into two, fresh synthetic turf fields! The overarching goal of this project, working together with the East Side Union High School District and Robert A. Bothman Construction, was not only just to provide high quality baseball and softball facilities, but to also create a sports destination for the community! Through an intriguing landscape plaza and perimeter nature trail, visiting or playing on these fields becomes an experience. Lloyd is excited to see these fields in action next baseball and softball season!
