What would it cost you if your best people walked out the door?? More than you think…and things you may never know. Somehow David Clancy ☘️ has ended up in my feed (the algorithm just knows doesn’t it??) This morning I found myself reading his analysis of on the “cost of absence” of #lebronjames and #lionelmessi for their respective teams. The posts were detailed and thorough laying out the analysis. If told anyone who is a sports fan that there would be a cost to the team if their star player was out…I don’t think anyone would fight me on the idea… but when I try to make the point that losing a star employee has a ripple effect and costs that aren’t obvious…the nod, but then tend to pay it lip service and do nothing to prevent it. We can disagree about how you measure it, but we have all lived through it enough to know what happens when your star walks out the door. Talent, relationships, institutional knowledge to name 3 Out The Door And how long will it take the replacement to get up to speed and adding value? Well unless you have a killer on boarding program (and most don’t) it will take longer than you think… So how about we spend some time making sure your employees are engaged, happy, well managed and well compensated? It’s a lot less expensive and less work then replacing them…so i may be busting out a few David Clancy ☘️ case studies with my clients to make the point. #hrconsulting #No4ThFloor

  • “Elmo thinks it’s important to be kind because if you’re kind to somebody, then they’ll be kind to somebody, and it goes on and on and on.” I had something different planned for today’s post, but the response to Elmo’s tweet asking how everyone is what such a reminder of what I already know. People are not ok. We see it through our work every day. People are burned out or exhausted or anxious. Others are doing or saying things at work that they would never have thought was ok pre pandemic….like seriously strange stuff… People it seems, have forgotten how to people. So why don’t we start with a little refresher: 1. Be kind to each other - literally no room for being rude; 2. Assume best intentions when interacting with others. I’ve found 8/10 conflicts are misunderstandings and a result of assuming bad intentions. So ask clarifying questions before jumping to conclusions; 3. Give yourself and others some grace…maybe it’s another was of saying 1&2 but I’m saying it anyway. 4. If you wouldn’t say it to your grandmother or want to read on the cover of a newspaper/go viral on line…maybe you you should not say it or write it. (See 1….be kind); 5. If it’s grooming that is usually done in a bathroom at home it’s not meant to be done in an open floor plan office. Seems obvious…but apparently it’s not. 6. Relationships aren’t transactional. Ask how people are. Mean it. Listen. Follow up. I could probably go on and on but this is a good start. What would you add? #hrconsulting #humanresources #No4thFloor

Social Media Manager at Sesame Workshop | @Elmo on the Internet ❤️

Just checking in! How is everybody doing? I have so much to say about the last few days but first, let me start with THANK YOU! Thank you to everyone who shared how they are feeling with #Elmo. And thank you to all my incredible colleagues, who are actively working around the clock to make sure Sesame Workshop’s #EmotionalWellBeing resources are being shared far and wide. I can show you a reply or two or one million and counting that shows just how much the world needs them. How have I been feeling since I pressed post? Check in again soon, friends! But for now, sharing this great conversation I had with Rosie Colosi McDevitt:

Later is a lie Another great line from David Hieatt. The man has a way with words. People who don’t know me are always surprised by how fast I reply. But I know this about myself…it’s now or it’s (maybe) never. Later is a lie. That’s why I am known to give people in my life immediate permission to give me a nudge if they haven’t heard back from me. I’m never mad about the check in. Lucky for me technology has caught up to me. Now I can mark things as unread, send myself reminders to deal with the email at a certain time or even have gmail remind ME that I haven’t heard back from someone else. Later is a lie doesn’t mean I treat everything as urgent or don’t make plans for another day. It’s just that if I don’t type that note to myself to do it later…I won’t. I had planned to post about something else today, but I didn’t make a note about it…said I would do it later…but we know what later is…. #hrconsulting #culturewins #No4thFloor

  • We love the work we are doing with RIP Medical Debt to help them grow! They are doing amazing things for ending medical debt. Congratulations on such big news.

Proud to stand with NYC Mayor Adams to announce our partnership to wipe out $2 billion in medical debt for our fellow New Yorkers with RIP Medical Debt. As a NYer this is particularly meaningful to me. Can't wait to send out those notification letters to 500k people that their debt has been erased. Proud moment! https://lnkd.in/eRCKDECi
