Jobs With Justice recently announced the launch of the second Advancing Black Strategists Initiative (ABSI) Fellowship! In partnership with Clark Atlanta University, the newest ABSI fellows will be welcomed on July 11, 2024. This paid apprenticeship program offers a cohort of Black worker-leaders direct experience in developing & implementing strategies that expand organizing and collective bargaining power. The Executive Leadership Council (ELC) recently had the honor of meeting with 40 esteemed business leaders from across Ghana, including the U.S. Ambassador to Ghana, Virginia Palmer. This gathering marked a significant milestone in our efforts to forge meaningful connections and foster mutual growth between American and Ghanaian business communities. Reflecting on the experience, ELC Board Gale King shared, "Meeting with such a diverse and dynamic group of Ghanaian business leaders, alongside Ambassador Palmer, was incredibly inspiring. I recently had the pleasure of attending Leadership training in New Orleans with The Executive Leadership Council (ELC) . My specific cohort was Strategic Pathways For Women were I joined some phenomenal Women Executives from top companies across the country. We gained tools and techniques to help us navigate the corporate landscape as female executives. Deep diving into strategies to overcome imposter syndrome, increase our emotional intelligence and strategically grow our networks to align with our career goals and teams initiatives. It was a powerful experience led by the amazing Shelle Cleveland MBA and Tiffany Quivers. I'm grateful for an organization like RTX and leaders who support and curate opportunities for continuous learning and development. ELC Members visited the W.E.B. Du Bois Museum in Accra, Ghana, where they were deeply inspired by his enduring legacy of courage, intellect, and relentless pursuit of justice. This visit has strengthened our resolve to honor our heritage and continue his work towards equality and progress. The museum is currently undergoing renovations, and ELC President Michael Hyter says the ELC will investigate ways to support those efforts. Before we departed the museum, a wreath from the organization was placed at Dr. Du Bois's final resting place, reading, “The Executive Leadership Council dedicates this wreath to W.E.B. Du Bois. Simone Manuel claimed a tight victory in the women’s 50-meter freestyle at the US Olympic swimming trials, edging out Gretchen Walsh by 0.02 seconds. Manuel, a five-time Olympic medalist, recorded a time of 24.13 seconds at Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Stadium, almost half a second faster than her qualifying time. Having already earned a spot at this year’s Paris Olympics as a relay swimmer, the victory means that Manuel will also contest an individual event at her third Games. To get to this point has not been easy for the 27-year-old Texas native. She struggled with overtraining syndrome ahead of the last Olympics in Tokyo, a condition in which an athlete suffers physical and emotional decline as a result of intense exercise. “When I really think about how far I’ve come and the mountain I really had to climb, I think it’s really important for me to look back and be proud of myself for continuing to fight through this process and believe in myself,” Manuel said after earning a spot on the 4x100m freestyle relay team for the Paris Olympics.
