Two days in this little nook in the back corner of Copley Hall at Georgetown's Institute for Transformational Leadership is where I along with 130 other leaders discovered something about humanity and ourselves as part of the Search Inside Yourself Leadership Program. Being overcome with doubt and fear is introspective. Knowing self-compassion techniques and how to be with difficulty to untangle assumptions is insight. The secret lies within our ability to be mindfully present with whatever is before us - staying with the moment and not carried away by our thoughts. #leadership #executivecoach

This month, our DEI journey has shifted towards developing foundational cooperation skills among our staff, setting the stage for deeper, more impactful work in the future. Our focus has been on fostering a collaborative spirit in the workplace, emphasizing that collective efforts often yield better results compared to individual endeavors. Embracing the concept of 'we' and 'our', we've implemented workshops designed to equip our staff with the necessary tools for productive collaboration, acknowledging that our cultural backdrop often promotes competition more frequently than cooperation. The workshops we're learning to implement cover several key aspects of cooperation: 1) Brainstorming Sessions: We practice facilitating sessions where diverse groups collaborate to solve complex problems, emphasizing the power of collective intelligence and innovation. 2) Decision-Making Processes: Our training includes how to design inclusive decision-making processes that ensure all voices are heard, enhancing acceptance and implementation of decisions across various campus groups. 3) Team-Building Exercises: We engage in exercises designed to build trust and mutual respect within teams, leveraging each member's strengths to foster a sense of unity and shared purpose. 4) Consensus-Building Workshops: These workshops focus on strategies for achieving consensus, managing disagreements, and negotiating compromises to ensure everyone feels invested in the outcomes. 5) Creative Problem-Solving: We learn to conduct activities like role-playing and scenarios that encourage creative controversies, stimulating divergent thinking and innovative solutions. 6) Reflective Practices: An integral part of each workshop is reflective practice, where participants assess their collaboration effectiveness, discuss what worked well, and identify areas for improvement. These tailored workshops are specifically designed to meet the needs of our academic community, equipping participants with the necessary skills to enhance interactions and work collaboratively.
