Growing up in Kansas, during a time where there wasn’t much Asian representation on my TV screen, I felt pretty insecure at points. As a young teenage girl, you’re already so susceptible to all these beauty standards. When you add being a minority to the pot, it becomes even harder. It was really hard for me to love myself when I looked different than everyone around me. It wasn’t until my senior year of high school where I truly started to get over it. Being an Asian American artist is so important to me because I’m able to be that person that young girls like me could’ve looked up to.
