The Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) established the David Booth Summer Fellowship to help develop future global investment leaders. The inaugural Booth Fellow, Kash Molwani, is pursuing an MBA from Harvard Business School after working in private equity. Molwani recently had the opportunity to meet Dimensional Founder and Chairman David Booth at the firm’s headquarters in Austin. July marked 26 years for me at Dimensional. With long tenures not nearly as common today as they used to be, I’m proud to have spent the majority of my career at Dimensional. I’ve watched the firm grow from a team of around 90 when I joined to an organization with more than 1,600 employees across 15 global offices. I came to Dimensional after working in accounting for several years. In 1998, I attended one of the firm’s Foundations Conferences in Dallas and had my “aha” moment about investing. I learned that all known information is already reflected in the price of a security, which answered my long-standing question about why predictions and forecasts from the so-called experts rarely panned out. Fortunately, that led to a job where I was able to help take that message to investors around the world. It is rewarding to work alongside so many smart and talented people—coworkers as well as our clients—who all take pride in what they do and are always looking to improve while delivering a great experience. I wasn’t sure what I was getting into back in 1998, but I am honored to be a part of this team and look forward to what the future holds. The all-time list of medal-winning nations at the Summer Olympics includes more than 140 names. The US has won the most medals by far, but smaller countries frequently take home the gold, silver, and bronze.

Dimensional Japan hosted an investment conference at the historic Kobe Club, which was founded in 1869. Presenters included economist Jesper Koll and Dimensional Japan CEO John Alkire, who provided an overview of recent developments in Japan, and Professor Masahiro Miyake, who explained the importance of Kobe as a port and its profound influence on Japanese commerce. The keynote presentation featured Nobel laureate and Dimensional Resident Scientist Robert C. Merton and Professor Toshiki Honda, who discussed the importance of diversified investment portfolios and how to think about currency hedging.

We just passed the halfway point of 2024, and Dimensional is turning up the heat on its annual slate of conferences. Our “summer tour” already included stops in Charlotte, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, and Chicago. And next month, we’ll be hosting conferences in Austin, Atlanta, Nashville, and Santa Monica.
